The Art of Dining On the Consummation of Food and Thought A “good conversation” is hard to define, but we would suggest it happens between people with different perspectives. It is open rather than fixed, and it tends to linger, carrying on beyond the moment and the room. In this project, that effect is shaped through the setting of a dinner. Being nourished is a basic need, and as Virginia Woolf writes in ‘A Room of One’s Own’, one cannot think, love, or sleep well without having eaten well. Eating and artistic practice share clear parallels: both bring people together and involve layered processes unfolding at different speeds. Each depends on forms of labor and raises questions about sacrifice, authorship, and expression. Both are also shaped, and at times distorted, by larger economic structures. B32 and Laura invite artists whose work resonates with these ideas. Here, your kitchen becomes the setting for conversation. Choose a dish, invite us into your kitchen and let us help prepare and serve the meal while discussing your practice. You are welcome to invite guests who will eventually taste both the dialogic and nutritional fruits of the evening. Interested? Send your motivation to participate to [email protected] before the first of June. Until next meal, B32

I SMELL A RAT
 Book launch and theatrical installation
Paul Devens / Cristina Raduica 16.01.-18.01.2025
Opening 16.01. at 17.00
Open: 17 & 18 January 13:00-17:00
‘I smell a rat’, an expression of something dodgy happening, is covering the cooperation in between the two authors. Based upon the flash stories Cristina wrote in between 2022 and 2024, Paul drew surreal buildings and situations, resonating loosely with these. The stories in the book I smell a rat are based on observations, overhearing or wider reading. This publication is celebrating the shared love for the absurd, the otherworldly and the disturbing. The theatrical installation is based upon the short play Under the most aggreeable circumstances for a male and a female voice by Cristina Raduica. At B32, an absurd dialogue is established between this soundscape of voices, wall-filling prints of bizarre scenes and a choreography of furniture. The acoustics and architecture of B32, along with the movement of the audience through the space, are active participants in the installation.     Voices by Greg Marston and Jane McDowell
Book published by Hématomes Éditions
Design: NNstudio, Pierre Geurts, Antoine Lantair, Mathis Curcio
Translation to French: Julie Hanique, Tatum Florence and Emeric Florence
French title: ‘Un sous-marin sous le carrelage’ powered by Gemeente Maastricht, Mondriaan Fund, NNstudio and B32

Medical diagrams, family trees, footnotes, autopsy, marginalia, conspiracy maps, Dadaist collage etc. Dissecting Table brings together a group of artists within the shared framework of an operating room, forming a symbiotic whole of disciplines, practices, attitudes and varying backgrounds. The exhibition design is loosely borrowed form the board game Dr. Bibber, drawing on the visual language of medical diagrams and maps. All artworks embody bodily organs, connected by lines of string, in which each artists and every work plays a vital role. Together, the exhibition stages a laparoscopic inquiry into the question of whether something, or perhaps the art itself, is actually sick? EN/ As an artist space committed to freedom of expression and human rights, we cannot remain silent in the face of the ongoing violence, oppression, and violations of international law in Palestine. Art cannot be a sanctuary if fundamental freedoms are being systematically suppressed elsewhere. We grieve the immense human suffering caused by this violence and stand with those whose lives and dignity are under threat. We call for a lasting ceasefire, an immediate stop to the obstruction of humanitarian aid, and the implementation of sanctions against israel for as long as it violates international law. Closer to home we seek to create a safe space that centers the voices of the oppressed and refuses the false neutrality that, in the face of genocide, aligns with the oppressor. Solidarity is no symbolic gesture. We call on other artists, artist spaces, cultural workers, and institutions to put their postcolonial values into practice and to condemn imperialism when it unfolds right before our eyes. Van Maastricht tot Palestina, from the river to the sea.
