Awka Nawel Mondaka es compositor, guitarrista y cantante de Mawiza, también profesor de mapuzugun, de origen mapuche, con raíces familiares en Temuco por línea materna. Es integrante y principal compositor de la banda mapuche de metal Mawiza, cuyo álbum Kollong obtuvo el Premio Pulsar a Mejor Artista Metal (2020). En 2025, Mawiza lanzó el álbum Ül a través del sello internacional Season of Mist, proyectando su música en escenarios europeos. La banda ha participado en festivales como Summer Breeze, Malmö Rockstage y Dynamo Metal Fest. Su trabajo cruza música, identidad y espiritualidad mapuche, situando el mapuzugun como eje de la creación artística. [ESP] Una de las cosas que sigo aprendiendo de Mawiza es la capacidad de moverse entre mundos. Un día grabando en Brooklyn; al otro, cantando en un emotivo eluwün en La Granja. Fuimos a Nueva York con lo justo, pero el newen del norte se hizo presente desde el primer liwen chalitun. Joe, su familia y el equipo de Silvercord nos recibieron con una humanidad que atraviesa cualquier frontera, de la misma que se nos enseña en nuestras comunidades. Las guitarras y el bajo son de Joe, la batería, de Mario. Esta invitación marcó nuestro rüpü, no por la ciudad ni el estudio, sino por lo que nace cuando la música se encuentra con el mapuzugun y lo mantiene vivo. El newen de cada territorio reconoce al otro. En ese cruce, las fuerzas hablan sin adornos. [ENG] One of the things I keep learning from Mawiza is the ability to move between worlds. One day recording in Brooklyn; the next singing at an eluwün (mapuche funeral) in La Granja. We arrived in New York with almost nothing, yet the northern newen made itself known from the first greeting. Joe, his family, and the Silvercord team welcomed us with a humanity that crosses any border, in the same way it's taught in our communities. The guitars and bass are Joe’s, the drum set is Mario’s. This invitation marked our rüpü (path) not for the city or the studio, but for what emerges when music meets Mapuzugun and keeps it alive. The newen (strenght) of each territory recognizes the other.
