Come and hear me in conversation with Debbie Kilroy at Avid Reader Monday 18 May at 6pm. We’ll be talking about my memoir, The Framing, about a daughter fighting to prove that her mother was wrongly imprisoned. A huge thank you to the incredible lawyer @nicholashanna1 for standing up for justice and defending people from #Queensland who have been arrested under unjust laws designed to criminalise free speech and silence the pro-Palestine movement. No one should face arrest for calling for freedom and human rights for Palestinians 🇵🇸. Together with @mumsforpalestinemagandjin we were honoured to gift Nick a copy of our Taste of Palestine cookbook as a gift of gratitude for the tireless work he continues to do. And thank you to @ultraviolett_au from @departmentofhomeandgifts for organising it all. Photo 2 is definitely her “happy to be standing next to a legend” face!😁 📖And while we’re here, a little cookbook plug - you can grab your copy of Taste of Palestine at our stall at the Nakba rally in Magandjin tomorrow, or anytime online and in-store at Avid Reader in West End. Every purchase helps support PANZMA with their medical missions to Palestine. #NotOurLaw #FreePalestine #PalestineCookbook #LegendaryLawyers

I don’t always get to meet my Totally Lit podcast guests face to face, so it was extra special to hear the dynamic duo of @georgiaharper_author & @mercedes.mercier.writes speak at @avidreader last night. They discussed their new releases Couples Retreat & Dove and the topic coercive control in the crime genre. Was great to say hello and get copies of their books signed. And of course did it even happen if we didn’t get a pic together! @penguinbooksaus

What a fabulous night listening to Georgia Harper and Mercedes Mercier talk about coercive control and crime writing at Avid Reader, on the last night of their book tour. Georgia read the first chapter of Dove and Mercedes read the opening of The Couples Retreat and both novels are riveting. I can’t wait to read my signed copies. This week was packed full of author events and book launches! 😍 Over the last 7 days, I managed to attend 3 different events. Last Thursday I got to finally meet the lovely @em_lighezzolo in person, as she and @salwilsonwords discussed her incredible debut Life Drawing! 🩷 On Saturday I popped down to @tellmehowitends_books for @rubycanread ’s book launch. She was in conversation with @laurenjacksonauthorr and I got to catch up with so many wonderful booksta besties! The “hear me out” brownies were also so much fun! 🍫🔥 Aaaand on Tuesday, we were at the powerhouse to see @kuangrf in conversation with @whoviangirl77 ! This event was through @briswritersfest and I loved hearing more about Katabasis. I brought my Fairyloot edition to get signed and I’m so excited to read it soon! 🧡 Next on my bookish event list, is @nikita_gill ’s event with @avidreader ! 🖤 I’m currently reading Hekate and I’m so excited to hear Nikita in conversation with @shastradeo next week!! Let me know if I’ll see you there! 👀

Massive congratulations to @_leelai winner of the 2026 @thestellaprize for her book Cannon a graphic novel that Lee described as a portrait of anger. This is the first time the National literary Award Founded in 2012, to celebrate Australian women and non-binary writing has been presented in Brisbane. Congratulations to all the other finalists as well! It’s good to be reminded about the power of reading and to put down the phone and pick up a novel something I really need to practise myself!!!

it has been the most amazing start to the week going to see not one but TWO brilliant authors: mieko kawakami and r.f. kuang. it was so incredible to hear both of these writers speak about their books and it made me want to read their whole backlists asap 🏃‍♀️💨 i loved hearing kawakami talk about the way that she seems to have a different perspective on her books than her readers do, and that she works hard to shine a light on the people who do not normally get written about. she was a very vibrant and fun speaker and i was so grateful to see her on her first ever visit to australia 🎙️🌟 i had only previously read one book by r.f. kuang, being yellowface, but now i am so keen to read everything she has ever written. she is so insanely intelligent and inspiring. i loved hearing insight into the behind the scenes of her books and the processes that went into them. i will definitely be picking up katabasis soon as somehow she has encouraged me to take a journey through hell… 🖤🐈‍⬛🎓 i’m so grateful to have the opportunity here in brisbane to attend such amazing bookish events! thank you to @avidreader and @briswritersfest 🫶 have you been to many author events? have you read any books by either of these authors? 📖🎤
