We're really excited for this one! Thanks to Transmission Films, we have 5 double passes to GIVE AWAY to 'Sound of Falling' (at your cinema of choice), directed by Mascha Schilinski, opening nationally in cinemas on June 4. 🎞️ TO ENTER, simply tag who you would take with you in the comments below. 🪄 A little more about the film... At different points throughout the last century, Alma, Erika, Angelika and Lenka each spend a part of their childhood on the same farm in northern Germany. The farmhouse bears witness to events both global and personal, with two world wars and a divided Germany providing historical backdrops to the girls’ more intimate experiences of growing up – innocent friendships, playful pranks, deep trauma and the burgeoning comprehension of life’s limitations for women under patriarchy. Good luck! @transmissionfilms

What a fabulous night listening to Georgia Harper and Mercedes Mercier talk about coercive control and crime writing at Avid Reader, on the last night of their book tour. Georgia read the first chapter of Dove and Mercedes read the opening of The Couples Retreat and both novels are riveting. I can’t wait to read my signed copies. This week on Fiona’s Friday favourites, she’s over at our children’s (& YA) bookshop Where the Wild Things Are 😍 Fiona is very excited about @jamesfoleybooks latest book ‘Oh No!’ 〰️ a very silly picture book about ‘onomatopoeia’ (sound effects) – although in this book they are more appropriately called ‘oh-no-matopoiea’ (the sound of things going very badly). 🐳 He will be joined by one of our other favourite author/illustrators @petercarnavasauthor later this month for an event on Sunday 31st May from 2 to 3pm. Come be silly with us and join us at the launch (secure your spot via the WTWTA website)! 👀

Join Georgia Harper and Mercedes Mercier for a conversation about their new crime novels and the exploration of coercive control as seen through a genre lens. This Friday from 6pm (for a 6.30pm start)! 📕 Dove by Georgia Harper: From the winner of the 2025 Davitt Award for debut crime fiction comes a provocative question. A community on edge. A murder waiting to happen.... 📘 The Couples Retreat by Mercedes Mercier: A twisty, compulsive destination thriller where no one is as perfect as they seem. There’s nothing more dangerous than someone who remembers who you used to be... Secure your spot for this incredible evening via the Avid Events page (link in bio)! @georgiaharper_author @mercedes.mercier.writes
