I was terrified becoming a mum would end my engineering career
The fear of being seen differently. Of being passed over. Of losing my edge. Of the guilt. Of not being taken seriously. Of having to choose. They were all real fears, but the reality was better than any of those fears
Not perfect. Not without difficulty. I couldn't have done it without support from my family and the flexibility that my workplace offered

When I turned up to university, far away from my family and friends, and realised that there was only one other woman on my aerospace engineering course I remember how intimidated I initially felt
I hadn't realised how big the gender disparity was with women making up only 6.9% of engineers in the UK at the time! ❌
Whilst I'm grateful for the support that I received from my male peers during university, there are lots of things I'd do differently with what I know now like finding a mentor and seeking out a support network
Things are slowly changing for the better and I will continue to encourage and support young women pursuing careers in engineering ✨
