Last month, our community came together for one of Avenues New York’s most beloved traditions: the Avenues World’s Fair. 🌍 With 100+ attendees and 20+ cultures represented, the afternoon was a joyful celebration of the stories, traditions, and perspectives that make our community so extraordinary. Hosted by the Avenues Parent Association (APA) in collaboration with our Upper Division International Student Council (ISC), the event filled campus with global flavors, music, crafts, performances, and cultural experiences from around the world. From tamales and mango mochi to blini-making, milk tea, and Matryoshka doll painting, families, students, and faculty shared traditions that connect us across cultures and generations. Thank you to every parent, student, volunteer, and organizer who helped bring this year’s World’s Fair to life. 💙 #AvenuesNewYork #WorldsFair #GlobalLearning #AvenuesWorldSchool

Swipe through to see how the Avenues community showed up for New York City last weekend. 💙 Last Saturday, more than 150 families, faculty, and students came together for Avenues Annual Community Day — a morning grounded in service, connection, and meaningful impact alongside incredible local partners across the city. From sorting donations and preparing meals to planting gardens and organizing LEGO donations for redistribution, every act of care mattered. A special thank you to Mr. Jones, Director of Community Engagement, the Avenues Parent Association Community Engagement Committee, and our Upper Division Service Learning Club for helping bring the day to life. And to every student, family member, and volunteer who gave their time and energy — thank you! @godslovenyc @heartofdinner @nycsanitation @richardsway_nonprofit @ch_apostlesnyc @passthebricks @stpeterschelsea

🌎 Our 5th graders just returned from an unforgettable week at Holy Trinity College in Argentina and they're still buzzing with stories. For a full week, they attended classes, explored Mar del Plata, and built friendships entirely in Spanish. From classroom to cultural excursions, they were completely immersed alongside their Argentine peers — learning, laughing, and growing in ways only this kind of experience can unlock. Exchange programs like this are integral to the Avenues experience: stretching our students beyond what they thought possible. They return with deeper confidence, broader perspective, and friendships that span continents. Avenues World Elements: Global Mindset, Confidence, Culture The Avenues World Elements define the global intended curriculum for Avenues graduates. Most people think of high school math as problem sets, exams, and formulas to master. 📚 At Avenues, it can look very different. This year, Avenues New York senior Kylan published a peer-reviewed research paper in Mathematics Competitions—the official journal of the World Federation of National Mathematics Competitions, read by educators and advanced student mathematicians around the world. 🌍✨ Through the Institute for Advanced Mathematics (AIM), students move beyond traditional coursework to pursue original research—working closely with mentors and engaging with mathematics as a creative, investigative discipline. 🔍💡 As Kylan shared: “I’m learning and exploring in the same way famous mathematicians once did… actively acquiring knowledge, instead of passively absorbing it.” The result is not just mastery. It’s contribution. 🔗 Read the full story at the World of Avenues link in bio

We are incredibly proud of both students for their hard work, dedication, confidence, and cultural fluency. Please join us in congratulating them!

Last week, Avenues hosted its third annual High Line Mathematics Competition—bringing together 109 students from Grades 5–12 for a day that felt more like a celebration of math than a competition! 🧮✨   From the very first round, the energy was unmistakable—students leaning in, debating ideas, and genuinely excited to take on complex, high-level problems. Across individual and team competitions, students tackled sophisticated mathematical challenges, pushing their thinking, testing strategies, and learning from one another in real time. 💡   The event was fully designed and run by students from the Institute for Advanced Mathematics (AIM)—a signature, highly selective program for students who go beyond the traditional classroom to pursue mathematics at levels rarely seen in K–12 education, driven by curiosity, creativity, and a desire to produce original work.   Led by AIM students Kylan, Harrison, Kenneth and Raghav, the student organizers created an experience that was both deeply challenging and incredibly engaging.   A special congratulations to all the participants and winners—we’re inspired by your curiosity, persistence, and love of mathematics! 💫

In kindergarten, students explored the story of Ruby Bridges as part of their World Course Change Maker unit— in both English and their immersion language (Spanish or Mandarin). 🌏 At just six years old, Ruby’s story feels deeply personal. You can see it in how students respond—naming what they notice, expressing care, and imagining what they would say to her. 💭 These moments—spoken across languages—reflect the Avenues World Elements in action, especially empathy and compassion. Not as ideas, but as something students are already beginning to understand, express, and practice together. ✨

Last week, Avenues New York Head of School Todd Shy joined Dr. Aliza Pressman and Dr. Thomas Kelly for NYC Parents in Action’s Parenting Scene 2026—an evening of thoughtful conversation on resilience, raising good humans, and navigating the complexities of parenting today. Together, the panel explored many of the questions facing families right now—from parental anxiety and screen time to AI, wellbeing, and what it truly means to raise children of character in an increasingly complex world. Thank you to NYC Parents in Action and Trinity School for hosting such an important conversation—and to all who joined us for an evening of honest dialogue, practical insight, and shared reflection on the role schools and families play in helping children thrive. At Avenues, we believe these conversations matter deeply. Raising confident, capable, compassionate young people takes partnership—and we are grateful to be part of that work alongside families every day.

Rigor, redefined. This past December, students participated in ReCon—Record of Conference—presenting their work in a formal setting. They walk through their process, explain the “why” behind their work, and engage in Q&A with peers, teachers, and families. These projects are part of the Mastery Learning System, a signature Upper Division program for students who choose to pursue a passion at a deeper level—often at a level rarely seen in a high school setting. Working alongside faculty mentors and industry experts, they take ideas from early exploration to fully realized projects. See some of the exciting projects our Mastery Learning System students have been working on.
