Jeff Arlo Brown has pulled a rabbit out of a hat with this beautiful beautiful profile of the great German avant-garde composer Helmut Lachenmann on his 90th birthday. It’s such good writing, fleet and precise and deeply observed at the same time, and features dear friends JACK Quartet who got into Lachenmann the same time as I did (I remember sitting in rehearsals in Howard Hanson Hall at Eastman as they tried to decrypt the first quartet: thrilling!). I have more thoughts on Helmie, for later, but for now: bravo JAB, bravo JACK, and people, please listen to this music that simply does not fuck around but instead reaches past the sordid failures of human civilization to rescue attention and restore it, for a few minutes, to its utopian potential. Não podíamos ter terminado a 1ª edição do CRIVO de melhor forma! No Grande Auditório da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian com a Orquestra Gulbenkian, o violoncelista Jay Campbell e a maestra Tianyi Lu. Ouvimos ‘Reverdecer’ (2023), da compositora portuguesa Andreia Pinto Correia, uma peça escrita especialmente para o violoncelista norte-americano Jay Campbell, que veio a Lisboa de propósito para a tocar no CRIVO, e ainda a estreia em Portugal da Sinfonia op. 41 (1920) da compositora croata Dora Pejačević. Um concerto memorável!! Ao longo de duas semanas, o CRIVO trouxe a Lisboa vários concertos comentados, um fórum ensino, uma conferência e ainda uma sessão de cinema. Tivemos a sorte de contar com a compositora Andreia Pinto Correia nos ensaios da sua peça ‘Reverdecer’, ao lado da maestra Tianyi Lu, da Orquestra Gulbenkian e do solista Jay Campbell, preparando o concerto do CRIVO no Grande Auditório da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, na passada quinta-feira. A música de Andreia Pinto Correia tem uma forte componente contemplativa, com grande atenção dada aos detalhes, ao timbre e ao elemento do tempo. É nessa intersecção entre o tempo, o percurso e a memória que encontramos ‘Reverdecer’, uma encomenda da Orquestra Sinfónica do Estado de São Paulo e da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, onde foi estreada em 2023.
