We had an incredible night yesterday at the #Calderdale #PoetrySlam Final! 🤩 Schools from all over Halifax sent their best teams of poets to compete and the standard of performances was phenomenal, everyone should be so proud of themselves!
🏆 The winners were Holy Trinity Primary School, A Church of England Academy closely followed by Lee Mount Primary Academy in second and Savile Park Primary in third place.
🎤 Spoz was our host and he was joined by guest judge poets @mlferg and Donavan who had the unenviable task of choosing the winners.
🙏 Huge thanks to all the schools who took part, you were amazing! Thank you to the teachers and families for coming along to support the event and to the judges for lending their expertise. We would also like to give special thanks to Karen Lomas from Bearder Charity who has been a huge supporter of the Calderdale Poetry Slam since it's inception and the support from Bearder has enabled many children to take part over the years 💜

We had a marvellous time last night celebrating the Leeds Poetry Slam! 🥳
It was a joy to welcome young teams of poets from schools across the city and the judges had a very tricky job indeed!
🏆 The winners were @pudseywaterloo followed closely by @coopleeds in second place and @alwoodleyprimaryschool in third place but the standard and quality of the performances was so high across the board, everyone who took part should be so proud of themselves! 🤩🥰
🎤 The event was hosted by Poetry Slam legend Spoz and we welcomed guest judge poets @andycravengriffiths and @thenicktoczek who had the difficult decision of choosing the winners.
🙏 Thank you to all the schools for taking part, the teachers for giving up their evenings, the judges for their support and for everyone who came along to @carriageworkstheatre to support the event.
Tonight we're heading over to Halifax to see how their young poets measure up and based on previous years it's going to be a very good evening! See you there!
We're delighted to welcome spoken word artist and poetry workshop facilitator Jade E @jada_kiss_x to the Authors Abroad gang!
Jade began writing as a way to make sense of identity, relationships and the challenges people often don’t talk about. What started as personal expression has grown into a powerful tool for connection, learning and growth and she has facilitated workshops in a range of settings.
Her school visits are for KS2 and 3 and can include both presentations and workshops where students are encouraged to recognise the value of their voice and the impact it can have — not just in creative spaces, but in their everyday lives.

Well this is something that doesn't happen every day...
After organising her tour of schools in Thailand and Malaysia this spring, the lovely @author_sarahrpye has adopted Mary the #SunBear on our behalf and we are absolutely thrilled to bits! 🤩🐻🌞
Sarah has been hugely inspired by the work of @bsbcc and @wongsiewte and his conservation work features heavily in her books and author talks.
Sun Bears are only found in South East Asia and are the smallest bears in the world. Their habitats are threatened by deforestation, hunting and poaching and the work of the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre is vital in rescuing and rehabilitating the bears as well as educating the public about protecting these wonderful creatures and their forest homes.
Mary looks like a real character and we can't wait to hear what she gets up to in the conservation centre in Borneo!

In and amongst all the admin there was some lovely news, and we are delighted that @christianfoleypoetry 's #SomeBears has been included in @readingagency 's #SummerReadingChallenge even though we're a tad late in sharing it!
It's in fantastic company with fantastic titles by @evawongnava@puneetbhandal@mglnrd to name a few and we can't wait to #ReadToTheBeat this summer! 📚🎶🎼

It's the end of term and after our busiest half-term of the year we are starting to resemble zombies 🧟 which is quite apt really because we are thrilled to welcome the wonderful author of The Zombie Project @alicenuttallbooks to the AA gang! 🎉
📚 As well as writing fiction, Alice also writes webcomics and her school visits include workshops on creating your own zombie apocalypse, worldbuilding and character creation.

Had a great time working with Year 2 and 3 children at an AIM Higher day this week. I love planning branching stories as a way to plan, and I was really impressed with how they all got the concept very quickly.
Last week there was the most wonderful evening celebrating young poets at the #Worcestershire #PoetrySlam Final! 🤩
Hosted by Brummie Poetry Legend Giovanni Spoz Esposito we enjoyed performances from several local schools who were all superb!
🏆 After much deliberation the winners were crowned as Norton Juxta Kempsey School, with St. John's C of E Middle School coming in a close second and Arden Academy claiming third place.
Huge well done to everyone that took part and we can't wait to see you all again next year! 🎉
