I worked on the film back in 2021, it was early in the production so the story changed quite a lot since those early concepts!
This is a painting illustrating one of the key moment of the film back then, alongside the various sketches I summited before doing the final colour version.

‘Ron’s Gone Wrong’ - Cars - 2017
One of the first version of the Pudowsky’s car, and some early rough designs for random cars in the movie. I had lots if fun playing with proportions, stretching them in various ways. The car of Barney’s family got later replaced by a more contemporary red pick-up truck, I include a rough sketch at the end.

A final post for my contribution on the movie, for the “Time Go Fishing” sequence.
Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller brought me in to explore the auroras on planet Adrian: how they could play in terms of colour, lighting and emotional arc through the sequence.
The sequence was already deep in the VFX pipeline at ILM, so all the shots and compositions were already locked. I explored colours ideas through a rough colour script and paintovers to get a quick overview and context for the sequence.
Absolutely Love how it turned out on screen 👌

A French production, concept, and character designer, 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐥 has nearly twenty years of experience at the world’s leading international animation studios. He has collaborated with Pixar, Sony Pictures Animation, Dreamworks, Illumination and Aardman, helping to build worlds that have shaped the collective imagination.
As a production designer, he has worked on Star Wars: Vision Volume 2, Mune: le Guardien de la Lune, Asterix et le coup de menhir. His visual development work includes titles such as Spider-man: Across the Spider - Verse, Inside Out 2, Despicable Me, Hotel Transylvania, Star Wars: Visions and Ron’s Gone Wrong, among many others.
