Thrilled to finally unveil my latest commissioned work for Stäubli’s Global ‘How we are’ Brand Campaign. Over an intense week, we travelled across Germany, Switzerland and France, covering over 2500 km to various factory locations. I first met Andi in 2005, in a messy Malaysian monsoon surf lineup among murky waters and unpredictable sets. We talked between waves,  don't really remember about what, but we stayed in touch. Back then, he was a struggling TV actor in Singapore. With only one TV station calling the shots, he kept getting cast as the same guy, you know the types – the gangsters, petty criminals, abusive husbands, the occasional loan sharks.  The kind of face you'd recognise but never quite place. Still, there was something about him that made you root for him. He came across like a surfer waiting it out; and you knew he’d catch his wave eventually. Now, twenty-one years later, he landed his first major feature role in We Are All Strangers, which competed for the Golden Bear at the Berlinale 2026. It was the first Singaporean film selected in 76 years.  The role isn't his life story, but if you know him, you can feel him in it. The waiting. The stubbornness of not quitting something when every reasonable signal says you probably should. I’ve been living away from Malaysia since 1999, and if you’re an ex-pat too, you’ll know what I’m talking about. I got the call from my sister that we all dread — Mum’s in the ICU, get here as soon as you can. So in January, I found myself on the next available flight back to Malaysia. It’s 19 hours up in the air but felt much longer, knowing that my mum was the fight of her life. And me also wondering, where did the last 27 years go? In good news, she’s stable now. And I think being by her side, my presence helped her vastly bounce back. That said, she’s facing long road to recovery because of a pre-existing condition. We live in such technologically advanced world, everyone is reachable with a touch of button or voice assistant. But when real life comes calling, nothing beats being there physically for your love ones when they needed you the most. For them and yourself. I wanted to capture this time, because I wanted to remember every part of how it felt.
