I am excited to announce that I will participate in the very first event + meet up event organized by @hk_modular_society . Last year, I had a brief chat with Tom from @musicthingmodular about the modular synth community in Hong Kong. I am glad that someone like Phill and Jimmy organize first ever event for the people who are interested in modular synth in Hong Kong. Since 2025, I have been making my open source modular synth and made several builds last year. For this event, I hope to treat it as a platform for exchange experiences about DIY modular Synth. Also, I also have some extra modules to sell in this event. Last year, I wrapped up my initial thoughts and experiences about the route of DIY modular Synth since 2025. If you are interested to know more, please head to my free tier post at Patreon. Link in bio. I will post more about the builds in coming weeks before the event. Stay tuned! Thanks Phill for the invite! Please register the event from @hk_modular_society if you are interested.

Jean-Claude Eloy (15 June 1938 - 19 November 2025) I am still hardly to express how I feel. I just don’t think you were gone and the memories between us have been still vivid like yesterday. I miss you, Jean-Claude! Photo: the first time we met in Paris on 18th Oct 2014.

Super excited about receiving the new panel from the factory @jlcpcb for Mutable Instruments Plaits (TOIL version). ENIG gold makes everything better. The graphic was made from the image of ink stone rubbing of a Lohan (the disciple of Buddha) at Welcome Collection. Chinese font designed by @zansyu . Lastly, I put the quote from John Cage on composition and music as a footnote for this little panel. #diymodularsynth #paneldeisgn #mutableinstruments

DIY modular Synth Diary (September, 2025) While I was building Mutable Instrument Plaits (TOIL through-hole version), I decided to make a detour. So I made Hagiwo’s Arduino-based sequencer, just for a bit fun (sort of). The whole process is relatively easy, so I quite recommend to beginners. I changed the font type of the panel to a much more readable font because I believe this is the most vital aspect of a panel. PCB by @jlcpcb as usual. #diymodularsynth

ShieldXL build note ShieldXL is by far the most expensive build. I think it cost me around HK$800 to build the entire machine. There are lots of 0603 SMD components that are very small, but it is still manageable because the spacing between components is wide enough for hand soldering. However, it took me a while to debug the Jack Fail issue after I finished the soldering due to a problem with one DNP component. After some inspection and checking for 2 days, I figured out that I needed to solder the component even though it says DNP. When it fired up without error, I was like “YESSSSSSSSSS!!!”. Now, the existing problem is that the front cover is a bit loose because I couldn’t find a proper screw/standoff, and the two holes on the left don’t fit any screws at the moment. But I would say I completed this build. PCB, knobs and crystal oscillator by @jlcpcb Gerber file from ShieldXL GitHub. #DIY #monome #nornsshield #nornsshieldxl #jlcbcb

Random note I worked with Fee Chan @chankwunfee.trans from time to time since 2008. We collaborated in several projects and my connection with theatre is always about her. One month ago, Fee Chan asked me if I can do sound design for her project, Body as Archive. Of course, I said yes because I didn’t have much work to do and it is Fee’s invitation. Some years ago, probably the time before COVID, I and Fee had a conversation about the our path of creative practices. I said, you should do a bit video that incorporates video, maybe it is a good way out. And now, some years later, she creates this reserch-based project. I am not sure if it is coincidence or not, but I am glad (always) that Fee jumps out of her comfort zone and makes something great and profound. Body as Archive #1 is the latest project by Fee Chan in collaboration with Melissa Leung @melissatuen who is an actor, theatre director and acting coach in Hong Kong. It is a bit unusual project (in terms of theatre context) because it involves lots of ideas on documentary, archive, body, the question of acting and reenactment. I am happy that the exhibition finally comes out as a coherent experience. I definitely recommend all of you to see the show in person because somehow the project expresses lots of love and sincerity to Melissa. More info @bodyasarchive
