The attention to detail a mixer can have with a 2 person sound team (3 if we’re very lucky) far surpasses what we can do as a single human mixing from a bag. Mixing from a bag has its place, but there is good reason why cart mixing is the standard for narrative films. Sound often gets overlooked as one of the last departments to bring on a project, but when we’re a part of pre production conversations, able to break down the script in advance, and have the help of a boom operator and sound utility we are able to deliver the highest quality mix for your project. hi friends, I’ve been more or less idle on social media for the past year; it has had a mostly positive effect on my family’s and my wellbeing. It’s yielded more IRL human connection, less internet YELLING, and far less doom-scrolling self-doubt. On the flip side, I haven’t been able to publicly give voice to my gratitude toward the new humans and collaborators I’ve worked with over the past year. As Season 2 of our little PBS show continues to roll out, I’m fired up with appreciation for the women who quietly work toward healing the planet and bring about outsized change through their stewardship. I recently had the incredible opportunity to present at @sony about my experience using the new ECM 778 shot gun microphone, crazy that we were the first sound team in the world to use this microphone in the field on @driftermovie This mic is becoming one of my favorites for noisy exterior dialogue, and interiors in tight spaces.
