Been thinking about momentum a lot lately and I can’t seem to put my camera down again. I’d rather love shooting and have fun doing it than worry about protecting my ego and needing everything to be perfect all the time. This new frame of mind has allowed me to make personal work and not stress over it coming out perfect and it’s opening my mind to different aesthetics and at the end of the day the story is always the most important part of my photography.
It’s also been great seeing @gracehconroy blend worlds between fishing, apparel, coastal living and the service industry all under one roof with @rs_supplyco #coastalnewengland #coastal #newengland
A little beach walk with my favorite model 😘 @megmwilliams_
Very happy to be back shooting canon and getting used to the colors again. For reference I’ve been shooting canon since I picked up a camera over 10 years ago. I decided to try the Fuji GFX 50sii and spent way too much time with the system and it had me scratching my head fairly often. I guess if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
I’ve only had a few opportunities to photograph kids in my career let alone baby’s but now that my friends are having them that might change a little bit. It’s always fun for me to do stuff like this to try and make my work with different subjects.
Who knows maybe more baby editorials this year.
Have not been enjoying editing the files on this Fuji GFX 50sii. I’ve found the white balance to be so sensitive in post that the slightest adjustment entirely throws off the color of the image. Since we’re in Florida this week visiting Meg’s grandparents I just said fuck it I’m going to walk and shoot regardless. No pressure no aim just carrying my camera with me to see and enjoy the process regardless of the tool. It’s slow, it’s clunky but it’s such an enjoyable practice to use your eyes and forget about the technical bs for a second.

One of my buddies always says “keep it stupid simple.”
It’s been playin in my mind lately. Knowing when to build momentum and knowing when be a curator. And it’s just that simple because 90% of the battle is just showing up with your camera in your hand.
Pushing the needle forward little by little definitely has its speed bumps.
This test was ambitious, four models, one outfit each, three hours total. Not enough time. A bit of a failure, honestly. But it clarified my goal, to make fewer shoot days produce more usable work.
One useful rule: if you want one day to look like multiple shoots, you have to design it that way on purpose. Different models, different outfits, different locations. It’s a longer day, but it multiplies your output and lets you shoot less often without losing momentum.
Not every shoot needs to be a win. Some just need to move you forward.
First, the finished print.
Then, the work behind it.
These markings show the dodging and burning guides used to shape the final image. Every note helps dial in contrast, exposure, and balance.

6am watching the sunrise on a New England coastline. Feels like every year my personal work aims to recreate feelings from my childhood little by little. --Thanks to the folks at @coppsislandoysters for bringing me on board for this one. I was amazed to see how natural, refined and scaled an oyster operation could be. I aimed to do something a bit different here and left my digital set up at home for this personal shoot.
Grateful to be spending a bit of time with my family this week.
As my schedule ramps up and life starts to feel louder and more chaotic, I noticed how easy it is to slip back into stress and pressure.
The thing that’s been saving me lately?
Play.
Playing like I’m a little kid again. Trying things fully knowing I’m going to suck at them and not caring. Ice skating and eating shit at 33 definitely hurts more than when you’re 6, but it’s also reminded me how much confidence comes from doing things just for fun.
Going forward, I want to bring that same sense of play into my work and what I share here experimenting more.
I’m enjoying the process again.
