Grafische Werkplaats window process>>> 1&2 The test and the final version of the “A” 3 mid-application: you can really see the moiré effect here 4 sneaky video of me by Eugène 5&6 Cato and I working outside in the cold of January 7&8 peeling, repositioning, overlapping the perforated film 9 applying the wood grain 10 wood/creamy peanut butter? 11 silkscreen ink made from woad 12 slow drip #drip A big thank you to the Grafische Werkplaats for allowing me the time and space to develop this large, experimental piece. I’m very pleased with the result and learned a great deal throughout the process. I hope to take on more commissions where I can combine silkscreening with vinyl!

Full, finished window at the Grafische Werkplaats. Scroll>> The white, heavy font is made with an unprinted one-way vision film. It’s build up from 49 separate stickers (!) and the design is 10 meters in length(!). The overlapping parts create different moiré effects depending on the angle they were cut. This effect is difficult to capture so come see it for yourself!

𝘓𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘧𝘪𝘦 silkscreened on glass at de Grafische Werkplaats. This print completes the design for the window and it’s one of my favourites. It’s a split fountain screen print (irisdruk in Dutch) creating a gradient between the four colours of ink used.

Flockdruk/Flock printing @grafische_werkplaats Each part of the window design is experimental and some techniques work surprisingly well. Most of the techniques used in the workshop cannot be translated to glass but flock printing can! Master Flocker: @eugenevanveldhoven

Part one of my design for @grafische_werkplaats For this piece, I developed a new technique I call TrekType™️ (not actually trademarked). Using thin vinyl strips, I pull the material while applying it to create smooth curves. The entire text uses less than 1.5 meters of vinyl and produces almost no waste. This design is based on the Kaufmann typeface. The technique works best with warm vinyl, so part of the installation process involved heating the strips under my many layers of clothing and waiting a few moments before continuing. What I love most about this method is the physical involvement: finger movement, body heat, pressure, pulling, gliding.

The final vinyl of the year! For this design I used a bronze vinyl and based my design on metal embossing techniques. It was really fun sketching in metal but tricky to translate it to vinyl. I’m glad it worked out! Thanks to @stroom_den_haag for trusting me. Happy holidays!

Double vinyl for @grafischewerkplaats ! The plain white text felt a bit too flat and not very legible, so I added a dichroic colorshift vinyl behind it. The spiced-up layer is designed by me.

The latest Open Letter, “Void Exercises: Collective Intervention in the Spaces Between,” by Arefeh Riahi is now on view at Page Not Found. Arefeh, a member of the collective To See the Inability to See, created this Open Letter as part of the group’s current exhibition at the space. This was the first time I installed an unfinished vinyl. Arefeh intentionally left blanks throughout the text, inviting other artists to respond and fill them in using acrylic markers. Through these contributions, the Open Letter continues to grow and transform over the course of the exhibition. Last two pictures by Fabio Meinardi @____page_not_found____ @rfariahi
