Discover the vibrant art of Ato Jackson. Since 2023, Nil Gallery has been collaborating with the young Ghanaian visual artist @atojackson . He explores our role as spectators and ‘scrollers’ by transforming photos found on Instagram into monumental canvases that he prints on various supports. Through silkscreening and the addition of acrylic paint, he distorts the bodies of his subjects, reinvesting in their contours. The portraits by Isaac Ato Jackson are suspended figures and moments, bursting with details that anchor him in the Ghanaian art scene, navigating between figuration and abstraction. Available works on Artsy. #AtoJackson #NilGallery #GhanaianArtist #ArtCallery #FigurationAndAbstraction

We have become magicians that freeze part of our time and history through digital technology. We trans-migrate these frozen moments from the ‘here and now’ to the underworld of images circulating as ‘Ghost Moment’. Identities are freed and made malleable to manipulate and alter to personal desires. It enters into the realm of dream, full of possibilities. A space that allows for abstraction of identity. You upload, I download and re-freeze again through hand made paintings in the ‘here and now’. It gets ‘re-refreeze’ 😂🤣😂 again with the digital technology, waiting to be manipulated again by scaling up to larger than life, on mundane material surfaces. It’s a cycle 🔁 of Occupying. #semiabstractpainting and #figuration “adwoapinamang_holding_flowers_” 2023 Acrylic on A5 sized paper.

It’s time to create a “Situation” without compromising “Pictorialness”. More or less push pictorialness/picture to become more ‘situational’ in experience. The Sun light as a condition to disrupt the picture as just a “self-contain object’ to become more of a ‘contingent Object’. #process #painting #objecthood #printmaking
