So honored to have work from my solo exhibition Death Drive @microscope_gallery included in @artnews top artworks of 2023 😭 repost 🔁 @microscope_gallery Faith Holland’s series of works “AI Forced to Confront its Own Death” is among the 25 defining artworks of 2023 for @artnews ! “At Microscope gallery, Faith Holland’s solo exhibition “Death Drive” served as a clear-eyed spectacle that probed the intersection of tech and mortality. Drawing inspiration from Freudian theory, Holland delved into the speculative decay of our electronics and handheld devices, sparking a conversation between the physical and digital. Her sculptures, a fusion of discarded gadgets and robust mold, serve as a poignant symbol of our environmental mess—a concoction of obsolete electronics interlaced with resilient mycelium. These eerie yet thought-provoking pieces are meant to remind us that some parts of the devices we hold so dear (but continue to update every few years) are expected to take over at least a million years to decompose. Holland’s sublimation prints, titled Artificial Intelligence Forced to Confront Its Own Death, depict an AI’s attempts to simulate mold growth, contemplating the eerie inevitability of tech meeting an organic end. Very excited to debut Peek & Play Magic Maker, which I made with Ben Bogart and @babyhildy , tomorrow as part of Wake Windows: The Witching Hour, an online exhibition @mackenzie.art.gallery . This is my first completed project from Toddler AI. I started thinking about this three years ago and it took nearly a year to make this thing! It's finally here! Thanks to curator @reeraw for the invitation, @prattsteamplant for supporting the project, @catbluemke & @cooljonnyc for perfecting the piece for the exhibition, @picturesthatgowithbeer for the beautiful illustrations and @chris__content for doing the standalone web version. It takes a village to raise an AI toddler!

Happy 6th birthday, Hildy! This year was full of firsts: learning to read and write, losing your first tooth (and then three more), riding your bike every day to school, getting an allowance, going to the opera, going kayaking, performing in the talent show, and too many other things to recount!
