This is Leo, a beautiful 7-year-old golden retriever, who found himself in a shelter despite being a purebred. While it may seem unusual, even dogs like Leo—whether seniors or puppies—can end up in shelters. His story is one of deep loss and, ultimately, incredible hope. Leo came to us because his owner, who had fallen into homelessness, made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him. His owner knew that living on the streets wasn’t the life Leo deserved and wanted to give him a chance at a better future. When Leo arrived at the shelter, it was clear how much he missed his person. He was devastated-refusing to eat, his spirit dimmed by the loss of the only family he had ever known. No matter how much love we offered, his sadness lingered. We knew that shelter life wasn’t what Leo needed to heal, so we found him a foster home—somewhere he could experience the care and comfort he was missing. In foster care, something amazing happened. Leo began to bloom. His playful spirit reemerged, and he showed his love for soft toys, happily carrying them around. He started eating again, and the light that had dimmed inside him began to shine once more. He transformed from a broken dog into one full of joy and life. Today, because of his foster’s dedication and compassion, Leo found his forever home. He will never again face the hardship of uncertainty. Instead, he will be cherished and spoiled, living the life every dog deserves. Fostering gave Leo the chance to heal and be loved, and it made all the difference. Fostering isn’t just about providing a temporary home; it’s about offering a second chance. It’s the bridge between heartbreak and happiness, and for dogs like Leo, it’s life-changing. Meet Lyra 💛 We are urgently looking for a foster for this incredibly sweet 2-year-old girl as she prepares for ACL surgery on May 27th. Lyra has already been through so much in her young life, including FHO surgery on both hips, and now she’s facing another major procedure after recently being diagnosed with a torn ACL. Despite everything, Lyra remains one of the sweetest dogs you could ever meet. She deserves a calm, loving home where she can finally rest, recover, and feel safe. We are hoping to place her in a foster home the week before surgery so she has time to decompress and adjust to a home environment beforehand. She is currently on medication to help manage her pain and keep her comfortable. ✨ What Lyra Needs: • A foster commitment of at least 1 month • No stairs • Strict crate rest during recovery • A calm, quiet home environment • Someone patient and compassionate to help her heal Her recovery will include: 🐾 Strict rest and short leash walks only 🐾 Medication management 🐾 Follow-up vet appointments 🐾 Gradual strength building over several weeks We will provide ALL supplies needed for her care and can reimburse transportation to and from veterinary appointments. In January, Maggie arrived in New York all the way from Georgia… very pregnant, very unsure, and about to face one of the biggest moments of her life in the middle of a freezing winter. Not long after arriving, Maggie gave birth to five beautiful baby nuggets and settled into foster care with a loving mom and child, where she proved what an incredible soul she is. Gentle. Patient. Loving. Now all of Maggie’s puppies have found homes of their own. And while she couldn’t be happier for them, this sweet mama is still waiting for her turn. At just 2 years old, Maggie is finally ready to be someone’s baby for a change. She’s playful, affectionate, and so eager to enjoy the carefree life she’s missed out on. On walks, she can get a little excited when she sees other dogs because after months of pregnancy, nursing, and responsibility, this girl is READY to run, play, explore, and just be a dog again. Most of all, Maggie is ready for rest. For comfort. For a soft place to land. For a family who will love her as deeply as she’s loved everyone around her. Happy Foster Monday to Loki 🤍 Loki is our sweet 8-year-old Velcro kitty who has been patiently waiting for the forever home he truly deserves. When Loki first came to us from a shelter in CT, he was deeply unhappy. Shelter life was overwhelming for him, and even after arriving here, it took time for him to feel safe enough to let his guard down. But once he entered foster care, everything changed. We finally got to meet the real Loki — a loving, playful, incredibly smart boy who just wants to be close to his person. Loki follows you from room to room, curls up nearby, and always wants to be part of whatever you’re doing. He loves interactive toys, cat puzzles, and anything he can chase around. He’s confident, curious, and never shy when meeting new people. Like many cats who have been through a lot, Loki can sometimes be temperamental about his space. But when you listen to him and respect his boundaries, he is the sweetest companion. He’s currently on a special diet and medication for allergies, and he’s doing great. Loki is looking for someone who will love him for exactly who he is , a loyal little shadow with a big personality and so much love to give. Kody is trying his best to be brave through a really big life change. After spending his whole life in a home, he came to us when his owner could no longer care for him, and while shelter life has been an adjustment, this handsome boy has stayed sweet, friendly, and very loving with the people around him. Kody is the kind of dog who just wants to be close to his humans. He loves pets, treats, and attention, and he’ll happily soak up all the affection you’re willing to give. He can be anxious and will need some help with leash manners and confidence out in the world, but underneath it all is a genuinely good dog who deserves patience, understanding, and a calm home where he can finally relax again. He has previously lived with cats and kids, and we’d love nothing more than to see him back where he belongs… curled up at home with people who love him. Meet One-Eyed Willy. ❤️ This sweet boy is about 3 years old, and despite everything he’s been through, he still greets everyone each morning hoping for pets and attention. 🥹 Willy was abandoned in the middle of the night outside of Bideawee, but thankfully he was found and brought to safety where he’s now getting the love and TLC he always deserved. He’s affectionate and playful and loves being around his people friends. He would likely do best as the only pet in the home where he can soak up all the attention for himself.
