A deeply atmospheric night of spectral indie-folk, psych textures and raw songwriting.
Astra Forward brings transportive songs exploring nature, grief, mysticism and connection from a former Diagrams member and collaborator with Erland Cooper.
Plus Spy From Moscow — soaring, emotionally bruised songs wrapped in grunge-toned guitars.
And Mock Deer bringing hypnotic psych-folk and introspective art-rock.
“Incredible.” — Rough Trade
For fans of immersive live music that leaves a mark.

Astra Forward brings her full band to The Ivy House in #SELondon on the 12th July:
Ethereal, immersive songs on nature, grief, mysticism & connection. Formerly of Diagrams (with Sam Genders / Tunng) and collaborator with Erland Cooper — expect something transportive.
Plus Spy From Moscow — soaring vocals, grunge-laced guitar, raw emotion. Having shared stages with Mark Morris and John Power, he delivers intimate, hook-heavy songs that hit straight to the chest.
+ Mock Deer (Ricky Damiani) is a London-based singer-songwriter and key voice in the city’s indie scene. He has toured Europe, sharing stages with Willy Mason and Joan Shelley. His debut album The Art of Loneliness (2020) earned strong UK press, and latest EP Pilgrims deepens his introspective art-rock/psych-folk sound.
“Incredible.” — Rough Trade
Atmospheric. Immersive. Unmissable.

Bandcamp and cassette only because Spotify yada yada neoliberalism etc.
It's pretty difficult to articulate exactly what the SLDO does for me, and trying to discuss it online feels clunky and weird but massive shout out to everyone who's ever come to a session. Letting a bunch of largely strangers pack out a room in my flat to make a noise on whatever they can bring or is to hand has been one of the best things going on in my music life over the last year and half or so, and it's all very meaningful and nice.
Do come along sometime, though if we get many more people on the regular we might need to find somewhere bigger to play.
Also much as I probably curse myself by saying this, it's absolutely wild that there's been no tea or coffee spilled on the carpet thus far.
The instructions we play from are here, in case you want to start your own drone orchestra, which you should:

And thanks very much to @dl_martyn for doing the actual recordings on his device.
Also come to our first ever show, it's fairly imminent.
Like receiving a postcard from the past, it’s felt good to release music that was held onto for so long.
Liberty/Only Sun is one of a few songs I’ve been reworking and demoing at home, though I don’t know if I’ll release the others & probably wont play this one live… I’ve been practising leaning into the present moment when recording, as with improv, capturing accidents, noise and the limitations of my space & technical ability… 💛

Here's our songbook as it currently stands. You can print, cut and fold this yourself, and if you want the files in high quality message us and we'll send them to you. All the playing instructions are from people who've come to sessions. Always open source, always DIY. All welcome at sessions, no musical experience needed and we have gear you can use.
Also come to our show on June 4th at @ivyhousenunhead
Thanks everyone who’s listened or been in touch about Liberty/Only Sun so far 🌞
With the help of a few friends, I started teaching myself guitar the summer after leaving school. I went to America around that time, partly living in New York & then San Fransciso, where I met a few songwriters via the San Francisco Zen Centre. This song emerged out of the transience of that time, of leaving home & moving cities, later to Brighton. The rework into what’s now this single Liberty/Only Sun emerged a few weeks ago, with the recording being built around a few improvisational and accidental elements I decided to keep in, you might hear the low rumble of London traffic or occasional birdsong…
I’ve been feeling fairly jaded & lacking in confidence lately so the support around music has been welcome. The solo sharing of art into the world, especially in the current climate, can be a disorientating process, a bridge between worlds that feels valuable to cross and also vulnerable. Thanks for listening & supporting in the ways you have 🤍🙏🏽

Bandcamp was the first music platform I joined as a solo artist and I’ve been surprised & grateful for support I’ve received through there. I first self-released my instrumental album ‘Words Are Wings’ exclusively on Bandcamp during lockdown and it felt like a remedy of connection during a time of isolation. All my music is on there, including quite a bit of more experimental stuff that’s not anywhere else. There are so many amazing independent artists I know who are either mostly or exclusively there now, and it feels like a special way to discover new music… Tomorrow is Bandcamp Friday where the platform waives it’s share which means artists receive a bit more from each sale 🤍

A postcard, a dream
Rekindled in song
The ritual gathering of
Discarded threads
From the river
Weaving oceans

Liberty/Only Sun - in the world on Friday 🌞
It's the song from the album that sounds most like it's from a rock opera, get wildly hype.
