Should you assist or go it alone? We asked career advisor and former agent @sabrina.sarl .
Sabrina breaks down why a successful career is about more than having a strong portfolio. Understanding professional etiquette, building genuine relationships, and earning trust are skills that often matter more than your work when it comes to getting hired.

Is having an agent necessary to have a successful career in 2026?
We sat down with @sabrina.sarl , creative career advisor and former agent.
“Not all agencies are the same. Some are commercially driven, they want to know your client list, your numbers. Others are more editorial and art led, more interested in what drives you as a creative and what your work stands for.
That’s why meeting as many agents as possible matters. Not just to get seen, but to find the right fit. Because the artist-agent relationship is the pinnacle of dating. You’ll be on the phone with this person every day. Your values, your vision, your way of working all need to align.
But the bigger question, and one worth asking before you start chasing representation, is whether an agent is actually what you need. There are plenty of successful artists working without one.
So before you focus on how to get an agent, it might be worth figuring out if that’s really the goal.”

Your portfolio isn’t just work, it’s your brand.
We sat down with creative career advisor & former global photography agent @sabrina.sarl to talk all things portfolios, and what she looked for when signing artists.
Here’s what stood out:
✦ Think of your portfolio as your brand identity. What makes your images distinctly yours?
✦ It’s a shop window, not a museum. Show what you’re most proud of and where you want to go.
✦ Always personalise your book for who you’re sending it to. One size does not fit all.
