I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, and turns out the research backs it up.
Social comparison theory shows we naturally compare upwards on social media, and a meta-analysis of 70 studies links this to increased depression and anxiety.
We’re literally wired to look at people we think are doing better than us, and social media gives us an endless feed of exactly that.
But what really got me was the research on success itself. Studies show that moderately talented people with more luck consistently outperform highly talented people with average luck. Sociologist Robert Merton called it the “Matthew Effect” early advantages compound over time.
Timing, location, resources, networks, family circumstances, these invisible factors play a massive role we systematically underestimate.
So when you’re scrolling and feeling like you’re not enough? Remember: you’re comparing your reality to someone else’s highlight reel PLUS their invisible advantages.
The playing field has never been level, and pretending it is just makes you feel worse about yourself.
2026 is the year I stop apologising for my pace and start focusing on what actually matters to me. Not the algorithm’s version of success. Mine.

The world offers itself in countless ways, through beauty, challenge, and truth.
I am grateful for how these experiences shape who I was, who I am, and who I am becoming.
Yet the deepest gratitude comes in sharing them with another, walking the path together, growing side by side, and finding strength, love, and joy in the journey.

I still have to pinch myself sometimes, I feel so lucky to have met my soulmate and to be surrounded by such wonderful friends and family. What an adventure it’s been so far, and the best part is knowing this is only the beginning of our next chapter together.
Sometimes the most unexpected paths lead to the most unforgettable moments.
✨ Our wedding was a celebration not only of love between two people, but of the beauty of the souls who gathered with us.
Friends who became family, laughter that carried us, kindness that lifted us,
