Trump and his allies want to cut Medicaid and IHSS funding, hurting seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities.
Assembly Democrats stand with Californians against these attacks on healthcare.
Exactly three years ago today, the California State Assembly passed AJR5 condemning the expulsion of two Black Tennessee lawmakers for protesting gun violence on the House floor. That same day, @brotherjones_ stood in the Assembly Chamber as California Democrats made clear that silencing dissent is an attack on democracy itself.
Yesterday, following the historic passage of AJR31 to restore the Voting Rights Act of 1965, he returned to the State Capitol with the same message: multiracial democracy is under attack, and history will judge what we do in this moment.
From Tennessee to California, the fight remains the same: defend democracy, protect the right to be heard, and refuse to back down.
History teaches us that attacks on voting rights are never isolated incidents. Dr. King reminds us that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, so Assembly Democrats stand with our brethren in places like Tennessee where Trump and his minions are trying to silence minority voters. Assembly Democrats stand firmly with those fighting to have their voice heard.
My district raised Justin Jones. Oakland’s spirit of resistance lives in him. Proud to stand with him in Sacramento and say that we will not go back to the Confederate era, where Black voters were erased and neglected. The Voting Rights Act was written in the blood of our civil rights movement leaders. Congress must restore it.
Earlier today, @brotherjones_ stood alongside the California Legislative Black Caucus (@CLBC ) to call out Republican-led gerrymandering efforts targeting Black and brown voters across the South and nationwide.
Our democracy works when every voice is heard and every vote counts.
We will not be silent. We will not be intimidated. And we will not go back.
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the leaders, advocates, trailblazers, and community voices who continue shaping California for the better.
Yesterday, the California State Assembly proudly honored 13 individuals and organizations whose contributions have strengthened our communities through public service, culture, medicine, entertainment, business, and beyond.
Thank you to this year’s honorees for your dedication, leadership, and lasting impact. #AAPI #AAPIHeritageMonth
Our climate is changing. Assembly Democrats are working to reduce pollution, create jobs, and harden our infrastructure and economy for climate resilience.
Assembly Democrats pushed back against Trump’s executive order targeting vote-by-mail and reaffirmed that California will continue protecting safe, secure, and accessible elections for all voters.
Assembly Democrats are balancing the incredible pressure on the state’s finances from federal mismanagement with a surge of one-time revenues. We are making choices that strengthen our ability to deal with future challenges while mitigating the very real crises of today.
Today, the California State Assembly passed Assembly Joint Resolution 29, reaffirming our commitment to free and fair elections and rejecting Trumps attacks on California’s voting system.
Vote-by-mail remains a safe, secure, reliable, and accessible way to vote, especially for communities that have historically faced barriers at the ballot box.
As @asmlashae said, our vote is our voice. Voting is a fundamental right and AJR 29 is about protecting California voters. Assembly Republicans voted against this resolution, once again siding with Trump.
