I was proud to join Governor Newsom for the signing of AB 1866, my bill that will hold the oil industry responsible for plugging over 40,000 idle oil wells across California. This bill addresses the urgent public health and climate issues posed by idle oil wells, while also protecting taxpayers. #CALeg
I recently visited a home-based child care center in Santa Barbara with @udwa . Having previously operated a child care center, I understand the important work that our dedicated child care providers do every day to help our kids learn and grow. Accessible, high quality child care is fundamental for our kids’ futures and the wellness of our families.
I recently presented a $750,000 check to @santabarbaracountyfire for the purchase of a marine rescue boat, in partnership with Sen. @MoniqueLimonCA . This boat will help our first responders save lives and protect our coastal environment.
Despite the federal government’s meddling and unstable policies, California’s revenues are up. Our tech sector’s success and forcing the ultra-wealthy to pay their fair share ensures that we can mitigate some of the worst of Trump’s attacks, yet Assembly Democrats will continue to ensure our spending is controlled and responsible.
The Santa Barbara Police Department has announced a serious incident in which a police officer was injured this morning. Thankfully, the Department has shared that the officer is receiving medical care and is in stable condition. While we wait for additional information, my thoughts are with our first responders and all community members impacted by this incident.
On Friday, I had the privilege of recognizing three Central Coast leaders as California Women of the Year: Mona Miyasato, Claudia Caceres, and Primitiva Hernandez.
Mona Miyasato is one of the longest-serving county administrators in California. She has dedicated her career to public service, providing steady leadership through some of our region’s most challenging moments while strengthening how local government serves its people.
While serving as a county supervisor, I worked with—and learned from—Mona every day. Mona is someone you can share a laugh with, but she is also exactly the kind of leader you want at the helm during times of crisis. I am proud to call her my friend.

Team Hart and friends had a great time at the Santa Barbara @coffeeculturefest ! Gunnar, our Senior District Representative, returned to his barista roots to compete in the latte art competition. Congratulations to all who contributed to an amazing celebration of Santa Barbara’s coffee community. #CALeg
When survivors speak up, we must listen and act. From California’s agricultural fields to the White House, predatory behavior cannot be overlooked.
The movements for farmworker and immigrant rights have never been about one person. At this juncture, we must continue to champion the hard-fought victories of these movements while holding accountable those who have abused trust.
I join my colleagues in outrage and disgust. I believe and support the survivors. We will work with haste and intentionality to make sure that California’s values are reflected in our telling of history, celebration of public holidays, and enactment of policies. #CALeg
I was proud to honor Primitiva Hernandez of Lompoc at the 2026 California Woman of the Year ceremony at the State Capitol. Primitiva serves as Executive Director of the 805UndocuFund—one of the largest grassroots mutual aid organizations in California, serving families up and down the Central Coast.
Primitiva is a proud immigrant from Mexico, a DACA recipient, and daughter of farmworkers. I first encountered Primitiva’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, as the 805UndocuFund worked to distribute aid to families left out of government economic relief programs.
Today, Primitiva is on the front lines supporting our immigrant neighbors who face unprecedented threats. California is a better place because of the efforts of leaders like Primitiva. Next month, Primitiva will be joined by other phenomenal leaders in a celebration of women’s leadership on the Central Coast. #caleg
My statement on the President’s reckless executive order that exploits the crisis in Iran to restart oil pipelines that have harmed our coastline:
“President Trump’s catastrophic move to override State environmental laws by invoking the Defense Production Act is another step on the slippery slope toward authoritarianism. If the President can attack a foreign country without authorization from Congress and override state laws with unprecedented dubious legal authority – what is left of our Constitution?”
💙On Feb 2, we hosted a screening + panel discussion of Ocean with David Attenborough in Sacramento—bringing together leaders to talk solutions for California’s ocean health as the State plans the future of its marine protected area network. In the film, Sir David Attenborough spotlights our ocean backyard, the Channel Islands Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), as a powerful example of supporting biodiversity and coastal economies.
Thank you to our ocean champions and event co-hosts @asmgregghart and @asmdawnaddis and to our incredible panelists @alexwarham@dirtydanbikes@anupaasokan@mccauley_lab , Teresa Romero, and @evalanilovesandlifts for sharing diverse perspectives on the many values of MPAs. We’re especially grateful to Assemblymember Hart for moderating the discussion and for his longstanding support for policies that advance ocean health—most recently through AB 14, which expands the Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies Program to protect whales from ship strikes.
