“He [Ahmed Shihab-Eldin] was detained on the 3rd of March; he has had very infrequent contact with his legal representatives, but we don’t know his conditions, and he hasn’t had no long form legal advice, and he’s been held without charge for 6 weeks now. Former Advisor to the Middle East Peace Envoy, Ashish Prashar, said: “Journalism is fundamentally about telling the truth; it is essential work, an act of service, and one the public needs in order to make informed decisions. To arbitrarily imprison a journalist and label that work “terrorism” or “endangering national security” is a grave misstep. The State Department and Foreign Office need to demand the release of all media workers from their allies in the Gulf. Anything less would be an abandonment of their ethical obligations and an endorsement of authoritarian practices.” The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is coordinating efforts to help bring attention to the case of U.S.-Kuwaiti journalist Ahmed Shihab-Eldin who is currently in detention in Kuwait. Shihab-Eldin, an award-winning journalist who posts prolifically on social media, has not posted online or been seen in public in Kuwait – where he was visiting family – since March 2. It is understood that authorities have charged him with spreading false information, harming national security, and misusing his mobile phone – vague and overly broad accusations that are routinely used to silence independent journalists. @committeetoprotectjournalists @sara_qudah

Talked to @tehrantimes79 about ongoing U.S. calls for negotiations with Iran while escalating military pressure and threats. “Negotiations are theatre.” – Ashish Prashar, former advisor to the Middle East peace envoy, dismisses US talks with Iran as a face-saving act for Western media while Trump seeks an exit from a losing war. Prashar warns Iran not to rely on any diplomatic guarantees: “As long as Israel exists, they will be attacked again & again... Everything they rebuild will be destroyed. They must not rely on any guarantee; it’s all a lie. Every word of it.” “Trump is losing this war and is looking for a way to come out of it looking like the saviour and victor,” Prashar tells Tehran Times. He notes that if Trump carried out his threats, “Iran would not hold back” & US support would vanish. Prashar delivers a sharp critique of both the US & Israel: Both were “founded on violence and genocide and that’s all they know. The truth is the rest of the world knows this as well.” He says Western enablers made this moment “inevitable.” “There is no real diplomatic solution with these two who have never honored a ceasefire,” Prashar concludes. March 26 is a revolutionary day for me. Over two decades ago on this day I was released from incarceration. I’ve lived a life that’s taken me from prison to politics and Palestine and learnt that the task of transforming society can only be achieved by the people - not heroes, not celebrities, not stars. They will try to disarm us by criminalizing us, they will try to strip our politics of legitimacy by recasting us as reckless, violent and self-destructive but as long as there is oppression, resistance is not only our right, it is our duty. A minute of living with dignity and pride is better than a thousand years of a miserable life under the boots of oppression. To my partner @soulcarousel - you have shown me that with all their power the oppressive forces in our world are trapped, besieged and they are fighting a losing battle. You’re the revolutionary I aspire to be every day. To my our son I don’t know if we’ll change the world but I know we will spark a change in this world. You are both the light in my eyes, my universe and I want nothing more than beautiful days for our little family. I love you ❤️ Our liberation is inevitable!
