Mathias Bracke Aarde, Smashing Salvation, Impermanence and Vastness are a selection of handpainted films I made between 2020 and now. These films are accompanied by a live audio performance using analogue tape loops and eGects, creating a soundscape of meditative, asynchronous, and unpredictable rhythms and textures. (Fig.1-2-3-4) Asel Bakchakova “Test 1” is a hand-painted 16mm film with live sound performance that explores the basics of analogue cameraless filmmaking and sound. Sounds come from self-built devices that transfer light into the sound. (Fig.5-6-7-8)

𝐒𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞 — 𝐇𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐢, 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐠𝐢ë, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒, 𝟓 𝐦𝐢𝐧. Volg Arama, geleid door een mystieke granaatappelboom, op weg naar een mysterieuze man. Een jongvolwassene wordt geconfronteerd met de geest van een vriend die zelfmoord pleegde – en met het knagende gevoel hem in de steek te hebben gelaten. This Sunday, Atelier OFFoff presents a program exploring phytography. It invi­tes the audien­ce to expe­rien­ce film as a living and orga­nic process. The eve­ning opens with a film per­for­man­ce by Karel Doing himself, in which he cap­tu­res the essen­ce of the tech­ni­que, using two 16mm pro­jec­tors. We then pre­sent the Belgian pre­mie­re of his new film A Patriot of These Woods, in which he poe­ti­cally intro­du­ces himself as a guar­di­an of plants and trees. Atelier OFFoff is deligh­ted to welcome Karel Doing for a film program and workshop on phytography. This technique ena­bles inter­ac­ti­on bet­ween the phy­to­che­mi­cal pro­per­ties of plants and the pho­to­che­mi­cal emul­si­on. Developed by the Dutch film­ma­ker Karel Doing, it is a method that aims for a dee­per rela­ti­ons­hip with plants by enga­ging both obser­va­ti­on and education. In this phy­to­grap­hy work­shop led by Doing himself, we’ll col­lect plants from the gar­den of Kunsthal Gent and cre­a­te our own phy­to­grams on 16mm film. A hands-on explo­ra­ti­on of plant che­mistry and cine­ma­tic materiality. The results will be pro­jec­ted in the eve­ning at 20:00 as part of a lar­ger film program on phytography. ᭄᭡ ͏ ͏ ͏ !!!
