A Patriot of These Woods è un film ispirato al romanzo Il barone rampante di Italo Calvino. Il libro racconta le avventure di un ragazzo che sale su un albero per trascorrere il resto della vita abitando un regno arboreo. Il cineasta si cala nel ruolo del protagonista applicando la sua tecnica di "fitografia". Si immerge nel mondo vegetale, intraprendendo il proprio viaggio tra gli alberi che lo circondano, usando il proprio corpo come un soldato metaforico che difende alberi e piante. Un mondo altrimenti nascosto si apre, rivelando la relazione simbiotica tra esseri umani e natura.
