Did you know you can find a gallery of rotating artists year round at Bothell City Hall? This month’s art walk coincides with Matthew Cory’s show and we are so excited to learn he will be joining us for the art walk!
From the City of Bothell’s website:
“Matthew’s work centers on figurative acrylic paintings, drawings, and digital illustrations that explore the relationship between humans, nature, and spirit. Blending metaphysics, philosophy, and humor, he creates “in medias res” scenes that invite curiosity about what’s unfolding. Through vibrant color, layered patterns, symbolism, and abstraction, Matthew aims to balance tension and unity while offering details that reveal new discoveries throughout each piece.
Raised in the Pacific Northwest, Matthew draws inspiration from nature, music, technology, and family history. He is a multidisciplinary creative - artist, musician, poet, and designer - as well as a husband and father of three.
Though he began with a strong focus on music and a career in graphic design for companies like Archie McPhee and Toysmith, he has increasingly dedicated himself to visual art since 2018, continuing to explore new materials, techniques, and ideas.
You can meet Matthew and learn more about his work at the Arts Alive Art Walk on Thursday, May 14 from 5pm to 8pm.”

"I believe we all have gone through transformations in our lives. Sometimes those changes are profound or dark, and we still search for light, for truth, for joy and continue to transform. My moth lanterns are a reflection of going through a traumatic transformation, and rebuilding yourself, finding light, and bringing it with you. My lanterns do not travel to light, they have found their own. This can be said of each critter I portray into a lantern.
I hand build using various clay bodies with a preference for porcelain, known for being difficult, as most transformations are, and yet strong, as we come out on the other end.
I add pops of color using underglazes and glazes to my pieces for fun, colorful and overall positive representations of creatures that can often be seen differently. I love the idea that positivity can come out through the darkness.
My pendants are a smaller interpretation of these and other whimsical critters."
