We’re grateful to the community members who joined the City Council Tuesday night as they issued proclamations recognizing Safe Boating and Paddling Week, Affordable Housing Week, and Mental Health Awareness Month. Safe Boating and Paddling Week encourages the community to learn and practice safe boating and paddling skills as residents enjoy the Sammamish River and other local waterways. Dale Vodicka of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary accepted the proclamation and spoke about the importance of life jackets, boating and paddling safety education, required safety equipment, and helping residents enjoy Bothell’s waterways safely. Affordable Housing Week recognizes the need for safe, healthy, and affordable housing, and the partnerships needed to expand stable housing options in Bothell and across the region. Laurie Olson of the Housing Authority of Snohomish County, Troy Drawz of Imagine Housing, Pastor Kristin Joyner of Bothell United Methodist Church, and Sophie Glass of ARCH provided comments on the proclamation and spoke about regional collaboration, current and future affordable housing efforts, and the importance of housing that supports residents, employers, schools, and neighborhoods. Mental Health Awareness Month raises awareness, reduces stigma, and promotes understanding of mental health conditions and the support available to individuals and families. Donnie Goodman of the YMCA of Greater Seattle accepted the proclamation and spoke about expanding access to behavioral health services, supporting youth and families, and bringing mental health resources closer to Bothell through our partnership with the Northshore YMCA.

Thank you, Bothell, for celebrating Earth Month with us! From community events to hands-on volunteer opportunities, April was a reminder that protecting our environment is something we all play a part in. More than 40 volunteers joined us at our Earth Day event with Whale Scout, helping clear around 18 cubic yards of invasive vegetation. Earth Month may be over, but work continues year-round. Through the Climate Action Plan and Urban Forest Management Plan, the City is working toward a healthier, more resilient, and more sustainable Bothell. Help keep that momentum going! Thank you to the community members who joined the City Council Tuesday night as they issued proclamations recognizing Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, National Police Week, and Jewish American Heritage Month. Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month recognizes the many cultures, histories, languages, traditions, and contributions of AANHPI communities. AC Petersen of the Bothell Arts Commission accepted the proclamation and spoke of the importance of visibility, belonging, and honoring the many stories and diverse experiences represented within AANHPI communities. National Police Week honors the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty and recognize those currently serving. Bothell Police Department Chief Ken Seuberlich accepted the proclamation, speaking in gratitude of the community’s support of law enforcement. He also spoke in remembrance of fallen officers across the country and in Bothell, acknowledging Officer Jonathan Shoop, who died in the line of duty while serving our community on July 13, 2020. Jewish American Heritage Month celebrates the enduring heritage, culture, and contributions of Jewish Americans, while also recognizing the importance of standing against antisemitism, hate, and discrimination. Rabbi Chaim S. Rivkin will accept the proclamation at a later date.

TRAFFIC ALERT: One does not simply drive under I-405 next weekend. Continued construction at the I-405/SR 522 interchange includes a full weekend closure of East Riverside Drive/Northeast Woodinville Drive in Bothell. Here’s the details: 🚧 Starting at 10:00pm Friday, May 15, @wsdot will close East Riverside Drive/Northeast Woodinville Drive under I-405 in Bothell in BOTH directions, reopening by 4:00am Monday, May 18. 🚧 We know these closures aren’t ideal. @wsdot needs to safely and efficiently complete ramp removal work in the area, which isn’t possible with the road open. However, the Sammamish River Trail will remain open. What you need to plan for: Expect significant delays. Drivers should follow official signed detours and avoid cutting through neighborhood streets. Signed routes are coordinated to help keep traffic moving and help preserve access for people who live and work in Bothell. Local access will be maintained for residents. Plan ahead and allow for plenty of extra time. For full details on the schedule, detours, ask questions or provide feedback, visit WSDOT’s website at the link in our bio.

DUCKLING RESCUE! 🦆 Yesterday afternoon, our Public Works crews responded qu(a)ckly after a group of ducklings were stuck in a storm drain near a local retention pond. Jerry, Haedyn, and Luke from our Storm Operations team tracked the flock down and used their experience to gently and safely remove the ducklings from the drain and reunite them with their family. What could have been a fowl situation turned into a happy reunification, showing the same care for local wildlife that our crews bring to our community every day. We bill that as a good job done!

Hey Bothell, meet your future leaders! Around 150 students from Bothell High School, Innovation Lab High School, and North Creek High School joined us last Friday, May 1, for a Law Day 2026 crash course in local government. Students heard from our councilmembers, met staff, experienced police and court operations, and even determined their own city budget to plan for the future. Law Day is a national recognition highlighting the importance of our country’s shared governance, constitution, and rule of law. Many cities, courts, and bar associations provide Law Day opportunities for youth to experience local government hands-on. We look forward to welcoming the next generation of Bothell-raised City councilmembers, officers, and employees!
