Some close ups I never posted of this guy, Desert Tarbodon #2, background of main image
Tarbodon- Huge hulking herd beasts inhabiting the great deserts and badlands of the continent.. Living a predominantly omnivorous lifestyle they tend to consume mostly desert weeds and roots, but will not stray from eating smaller creatures living among the burrows and plantlife if an opportunity arises.
Adult males grow large saggital crests sporting thick flanges that swell with coloured blood vessels to display their supremacy, but whose shape also aids to amplify the acoustics of the booming calls they use to mark their territory.
Their nasal cavity is a deep armoured structure housing the main emitter of these horn-like calls, with additional air intakes on the forehead that ensure their threats can be heard for miles around.
If these outbursts don’t deter a rival, males also sport enormous self-sharpening facial tusks and thumb spikes on their forelimbs, commonly engage in horrifying battles for dominance over the females in their group, usually leaving the weaker Male blind or at the very least badly wounded.
Another notable feature are the large fan-like organs behind the Tarbodons jaw that greatly aid them in hearing, but also can be maneuvered to direct their calls and shaken to dazzle females.
These growths enhance sound via vibrations in water and must be kept moist, therefore it is rare to see this species far from the shallow desert waters mud
Herds of Tarbodon are extremely dangerous to approach especially in mating season and testosterone fuelled males are known to charge and trample anything entering their territory,
None the less mythology of local tribes tell that great warriors of the past have somehow managed to tame the beast and rode them into battle as a naturally armoured war-mount.

Alternate Cyclops Concepts
Swipe for Variations
Inspired by the idea that Ancient Greeks would find elephant/mammoth fossils and believe they were cyclops skulls.
Part of a dark fantasy project I’ve been working on..
‘Cyclops are rare and ancient creatures. Long believed to be extinct, some isolated individuals are said to still exist deep in the caverns of the desert badlands and mountain cave systems of the southern continent.
Far from human settlements, they are solitary and territorial, becoming highly aggressive to any predator intruding on their hunting grounds due to scarcity of prey in their harsh environments, including members of their own species.
Their lifespan is unknown but believed to push into centuries, and are more likely to die of starvation by growing too large to feed than of old age. They have never been witnessed breeding and their reproductive habits are still a mystery.
Their most notable feature is their large single eyeball, but ironically the cyclops is almost blind. Their eyes are often clouded over and riddled with cateracts, relying primarily on sniffing out carrion with their large wet nostrils instead. It is said they can smell meat and musk for almost a mile, only venturing outside their dark abodes nocturnally as their eye is highly sensitive to light.
Nonetheless cyclops eyes can fetch a fortune on the black market, and a rare delicacy in many branches of witchcraft.
They also sport large tusks that vary between individuals, originally believed to serve primarily for defence and threat, they are in fact often used for digging away soil and rock when sniffing out hiding prey or expanding their cave habitats.
Their body is covered in a thick leathery hide that makes them extremely resistant to damage, and their feet are heavy and cylindrical, ideal for spreading their colossal weight while walking on sand and snow.
Cyclop origins date further back than recorded history, but legends claim stories of giants or trolls twisted beyond recognition with black magic and bred with elephantine beasts by dark ancient warlords.
But more likely they are just vestigial eyed creatures evolved to live in the dark.’
Meet SASS - An isolated Guardian of Nature, thrust back into a world of Chaos he thought was long left behind..Oh..and he’s a Sasquatch
SASS is a satirical character/story that’s been sitting in the back of my mind for many years.
So when Runway announced their “Pitch a TV Show That Doesn’t Exist Yet” contest, I jumped at the opportunity to finally bring him to life #RunwayBigPitchContest
At its core, Sass is a tongue in cheek parody of over the top action movies, creature features, and Saturday morning TV I grew up with. Think 80s and 90s nostalgia, stereotypes, absurdity, and a healthy dose of “what on earth did I just watch?”
Underneath the silliness is a story about a Gentle Giant who has lost faith in mankind, instead protecting the Animal world from humanity’s excesses, Until ghosts from the past force him back into the chaos. Beginning in 2022, I was introduced to AI-hybrid workflows inside major studio environments, before the conversation hit mainstream. I saw early this tech would inevitably shape the future of our industry, & felt it vital to understand. Like many, I’ve been quietly experimenting with hybridising workflows alongside my career in VFX Creature & Character work, & have been a Creative Partner with Runway since 2023
Like many in our industry, I’ve watched the conversation become increasingly polarised, often for very understandable reasons.
After years of experimentation, one thing has become clear to me: There is a middle between the extremes.
What makes us artists doesn’t stop at the end of a pen, stylus, or piece of software.
It lives in our ideas, our taste, stories, & our imagination.
Machine learning is already a major part of our industry.. & personally
I’d rather see artists at the steering wheel than under the wheels
One exciting part is what this could mean for individual artists-
Used as a way to finally Unlock decades of personal stories, worlds, characters & ideas that previously required entire studios/budgets to bring to life

I had a blast working as Lead creature artist on Venom 3, where my primary involvement was the development of the Xenophage among others
The show and creature was a massive team effort and a lot of fun to be a part of
Phase 1- Xenophage Conceptual development phase- (Designing the creature)
Myself, Antony Nguyen, Karl lindberg & Stephen Molyneaux - Early conceptual development in 2D & 3D
Ravi Bansal & Tom Proctor - Art direction & vfx supervision
Phase 2- Xenophage Pitch Phase- (fully fleshing out final design/sculpt and functioning asset)
This is the phase where the Xenophage had the most development. Working extremely closely with Director Kelly Marcel to bring her creature to life, we designed and sculpted the xenophage from head to toe even down to style and placement of details and wrinkles (heavily referenced on creatures such as snapping turtles, crustaceans, reptiles and insects)
By now we achieved fully animated turntables and the director affectionately referring to the creature as her baby
Myself- Full Model/Sculpt, including primary, secondary and tertiary forms (larger details, surfaces and wrinkles), detail conceptualisation and concept detail sculpt to guide final details.
Kristin Stolpe- textures for vfx model
Stephen New- Lookdev
Chas Jarret- Creative Director
Kyle wood- head of character
Tom proctor- Vfx supervision
Phase 3- Additional assets and Xenophage final stretch- retopology, reprojection and micro-details
A lot goes into the final 5-10% of an asset, when given the choice between the final retopology and fine-details of the xenophage, or moving onto other assets that needed more design/conceptualisation, I chose the latter, and I recommended the awesome skills of Marco Gifuni to do the final retopology and micro details for our creature.
David lee- Vfx Supervision
James Guy & Fernando Brandao De braga- Asset Supervision
Kubisi Younis- Character supervision
Marco Gifuni- Final model retopology/reprojection, Model adjustments + final micro details
Andy middleton & TomJL- Texture & Lookdev
Myself: Various Symbiotes and creatures, various final adjustments to xenophage
Vimal kerketta: Various Symbiotes and creatures
Andy Butler- Rig
Alien Romulus: Offspring concept
One of Several early design explorations I created for the Hybrid Offspring creature seen toward the end of the movie.
There was freedom to explore a wide range of different designs from horrifying alien entities & mangled mutations to pimple faced teenagers, and I look forward to sharing more of these in the future
All we knew in these early phases of pre production was that the creature would be born by a human infected with the DNA of a Xenomorph and possibly Engineers, and the offspring would be some form of hybrid of the three.
This gave a lot of creative freedom during the design phase and was a tonne of fun to play a small part of one of my favourite franchises
Dune: Part 2 Sandworms / Shai-Hulud
I was fortunate to be part of the team bringing the epic Sandworms of Arrakis (Shai-Hulud) to life for Dune part 2.
My primary task was sculpting the Skin of the worms, serving as the vast organic landscapes in close up shots, and secondarily tasked with building/assembling the various individualised large scale worms in longshots from separate sculpted segments producing a variety visually-different worms the Fremen (Zendaya, Javier Bardem etc) and Paul Atreides (Timothy Charlene) would ride.
Additionally I was responsible for sculpting various fetal/embryonic stages of Alia, the conscious child in utero of lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson)
While sculpting the skin of the worms, I worked closely with Raul Gimenez who sculpted the hardened scab regions interlocking with the skin, and together assembled the multiple worm versions seen onscreen, Textures by Carol Cheng, Lookdev by Daniel Veder, Coordination from Lisa Lee, all under the great leadership/direction of Jon Capacia and Lucas Cuenca, and having a lot of fun working with other artists on the Dune project such as Thomas Sackmann, Stefano Carta, Reo Pendergast, and more. Overall my work was a small puzzle piece in the huge jigsaw of Team effort working together to bring this movie to life, can’t wait to join you all in the Cinemas this weekend!

8th-12th March, Check out the Sci-fi Film Festival at the London Science Museum,
Screening a range Sci-fi Classics and featuring guest speaker Directors such as Christopher Nolan and Danny Boyle, and prominent Scientists such as Brian Cox and Lucie Green, Nobel prize winner Kip Thorne + more, discussing the Art and Science behind the movies concepts.
Alongside the Screenings in the IMAX Theatre, there will also be live Panels and Q&A sessions discussing Scientific ideas on the forefront of future discovery such as Androids, The Cosmos, Alien worlds and Creatures.
I will be taking part in a panel discussing and debating the existence of Extra Terrestrial life, and how it might realistically exist and function in relation the core principles that govern animal life on Earth.
Alongside Dr Arik Kershenbaum, Zoologist lecturer and expert in animal communication at the University of Cambridge + Author of Best seller ‘the Zoologists guide to the Galaxy,
And Dr Bettina Beinhoff, Expert in Linguistics and Lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University,
The three of us will discuss concepts such as Astrobiology, Speculative Evolution, Ecological Niches, Convergence, Natural Selection, Adaptation, Behavior/Communication and much more to determine, if life is out there, how might these Alien creatures realistically look and behave in terms of the most up to date scientific discoveries, and in what ways might they differ from or alternatively reflect life as we know it on Earth.
Chaired by Qasa Alom, investigative journalist and presenter of Documentaries and Programmes across a range of BBC outlets.
Visit the Science Museum website for the full schedule and to Book tickets if interested!
* Note- This will differ greatly from my previous presentations at the Science Museum, Dneg & ILM, As this is a live panel discussion and q&a session with multiple peoples inputs and ideas, Although some slides from these presentations will feature, and similar concepts will be discussed.
Have a great end of the week & weekend!
