Growing up in Clevelandâs Buckeye neighborhood, curator and gallery owner David Ramsey (artnerddave) didnât see much art. The Cleveland Museum of Art felt âlike another state away,â he says and creative careers were something he couldnât picture. Years later, that absence became his inspiration.
Through his gallery, @wearedeeproots , Ramsey is building what he once needed, a space where Black and Brown artists can see themselves represented, where communities feel ownership over art, and where culture is not just displayed but lived. What began as a grassroots experiment on the corner of East 79th and Central in Clevelandâs Fairfax neighborhood has evolved into a professional, citywide vision â one thatâs now reshaping how institutions like the @clebotanicalgarden and @uhhospitals_cle connect with community.

Almost 10 years ago @mr.soul216 introduced me to his Atlanta community and challenged me to show up to @petersstreetstation and help with the anniversary. 8 years later and I still show up and volunteer for one of the greatest exhibitions I get to be a part of.
I text @p_hollywood who told me to catch @iambritsade and @1.stretch for the tools and tasks. Hung art and then experienced the culture thatâs been built over 18 years.
Salute to @miyabailey and the entire team who make me feel welcome to serve and produce a one of a kind event. And shout out to @asiaarmour_ , @bee1ne_ , @ajhatheartist , and @jaecapo for making Cleveland proud with the work yâall produced.
