Please join the Center for African Education at Teachers College and the Black Caucus, Student Union, and Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Columbia’s School of Social Work for an engaging documentary film screening of You Think You Grown? Dismantling Adultification.
This film premiered at the Apollo theatre, earning the title of “Best Documentary Feature” through its groundbreaking role in defining and exploring Adultification’s effects on Black girls and women. In this film, educators, activists, artists, and teens share their experiences within Black girlhood and discuss dismantling Adultification for the next generation.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with the award-winning Screenwriter and Director, Chanel Dupree. Please find the film trailer in the RSVP link in our bio.

I need someone to seriously pinch me. Y’all, I wrote an opt-ed about the effects of Adultification for @teenvogue 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯. I cannot even express how it felt to be asked to write this article! The work and dedication for black girls and women will never stop with me. Now more than ever we need to be leaning into them, learn from them and build a safe community for black girls to grow.

This weekend was a DREAM! Since it’s a VERY special holiday I thought I should share!
I had the absolute pleasure being a panelist for the “Me Too. International” and @tribeca !!! 🤯🤯🤯
For “Me Too” we discussed the sexualization of black girls which has been apart of my work for many years. @youthinkyougrownfilm has opened so many doors to make change! I got to meet the incredible @taranajaneen , what a lovely soul you were! It was an honor to share space with each and every person on that stage!
As you all know, my film @youthinkyougrownfilm screened at @lincolncenter in connection with the @nypl . So at @tribeca we discussed interrogating the public library into the filmmaking journey!
I’m still on a high from this experience. I prayed for this and it feels so wonderful to step into such a blessing! 🥲🥲
