There is really so much I could say about this drawing and all the many layers that went into creating it. In short, I describe it as a circular drawing that "has no up or down." The drawing can be rotated on the wall and change form and meaning accordingly.
I'm excited to announce that this drawing will be on display at the Capa Gallery downtown as part of a larger exhibit in conjunction with Space gallery, celebrating the work of Capa faculty and alumni over the last 45 years! It's a very unique and exciting show and it opens tomorrow from 5 to 7 PM! Special thanks to the brilliant sorceress @shanpultz for putting this together!
The exhibit will run for a few months, in case you wanted to check out these unique works and maybe even give Volvelle of Both a spin yourself!

In my notes I wrote:
"This abstract work uses the simple modular unit of a triangle as a metaphor to express a process of transformation, deconstruction and reconstruction. Using geometry as a language, the piece references social, cultural and political constructs such as gender, in an ongoing process of transformation. In this process, a conscious and alert progression (if somewhat chaotic, vulnerable and challenging) hopes to move perception away from a one-dimensional, polarized, dualistic view of the individual, towards a more comprehensive image that reveals a multi dimensional, multi faceted, colorful and ever-changing essence."
It was fun and challenging to create this custom commission piece, inspired by and in honor of the paradigm-shifting work of this client.
Commission work is probably my favorite. I usually ask the client what they are looking for and what their budget is and we make it work! I am booked for the summer but always accepting commission requests via email. All artwork inquiries are welcome, feel free to DM!

Someone may think of this as creepy, but I don’t see a skull much differently than a fallen tree, a piece of driftwood or a flower.
Death is there as a reminder of how precious and fleeting and beautiful this life is. Death and life hold hands through this entire journey.
