Artefact Presents... Eric Chenaux and Karolina Wegryzyn
28th April, 7pm
@centrala_space
Eric Chenaux is one of the great contemporary guitarists and experimental songsmiths. His work balances masterful improvisation and classic composition, at once giving nods to avant-garde noiseniks, folk songwriters and the great jazz singers. A former Wire Magazine cover star and described by The Guardian as having âone of the all-time great singing voices in popular musicâ, Chenaux is a bonafide legend making a much anticipated visit to Birmingham on the back of 2024âs extraordinary âDelights Of My Lifeâ.
âWhere Chenaux really differs from any of them is in his lysergic tonal explorations, behind his honey-dipped vocals and baffling assortment of bent guitar notes, aquatic and forever morphingâ The Quietus
âA singer and songwriter possessed of angelic sweetness and clarity accompanying himself with largely improvised, visceral guitar textures that seem intent on undermining and obscuring his own songs. Itâs the need to communicate tussling with the urge to obfuscate; lucidity versus opacity; form against chaos.â The Wire
Karolina Wegrzyn is an award-winning Polish folk singer and multi-instrumentalist from South-Eastern Poland, now based in West Midlands. She plays accordion, hammered dulcimer and frame drums. Raised in a family of traditional singers and dancers, she inherited many songs from her grandmother and uses archaic âscream singingâ rooted in Eastern European village traditions. She received a Polish Ministry of Culture award in 2011 and placed 3rd at the 2021 Szczecin Traditional Musicianâs Tournament. She performs at many UK events with her band, blending powerful upbeat Balkan folk with emotional North-Carpathian rawness to create a sense of shared cultural heritage.
This concert is taking place at @centrala_space and weâd like to thank them for hosting Artefact whilst we still await moving into our new home! đ

Stirchley Co-op Update
After a difficult two and a half weeks, we are pleased to share that negotiations with GreenSquareAccord are back underway, with the support of Birmingham City Council and our larger community.
With a new proposed completion date at the end of April, weâre hopeful that a resolution is within reach and that this ten-year-long project can finally be returned to Stirchley.
We will keep everyone updated as we progress this resolution.
As always, thank you to all those who have come out to support us and shared words of encouragement - we are so thankful to have our community standing with us.

Kate joined @artefactprojects because they were feeling isolated and saw something special in the community this little space was building.
When Artefact was forced to close, Kate stayed in Stirchley and became even more involved in our community. They got a job at fellow co-op @loaf.coop and successfully applied for a flat in the new development.
All of this happened because a small community space, which has since been pushed out by rising rents and landlords, existed and let people in.
Housing isnât about balance sheets. Itâs about people.
We canât wait to welcome Artefact back to the high street. đ¨đđ§ââď¸
150+ statements of community support and counting.
Please continue to help us tell the world why this project is important. You can write your statement via the link in bio.
We are looking forward to sharing more about our progress next week.
THANK YOU
Weâre overwhelmed by the support for Artefactâs Returns fundraiser!

Your support keeps the dreams alive and our programs thriving!

Weâve received nearly 100 statements of community support in just 24 hours! This has always been a project about the importance of community-led action and in response to the abhorrent state of housing in the UK.
To all of those who have shared encouragement and why this project is so important - THANK YOU!
âď¸ Please continue to send in statements (link in bio to write yours), we will be reviewing and sharing them throughout the week.
We are overwhelmed by the kind words of support and solidarity we have received from the community over the past 24 hours. Our residents, workers, and wider community are working around the clock to ensure that Stirchley Co-operative Development remains a project run and owned by the community.
Many of you have asked how you can best support usâthank you! We have put together three things that would be greatly helpful.
