My album Role Model is out now🪞 There’s a word in German, kunstlerroman, that means “an artist’s coming of age story.” Role Model has been the soundtrack for my exhibit Mirror, Mirror over the last three years, and it represents my growth in the last six years from an isolated artist into an active community member who shows up and speaks out for the things that matter to me: my people, values, and my practice. I’m so thrilled to have it in a recorded form to share with you, so that it can be a part of your life as well 💞 This is the unmastered version of the album, and it is available exclusively on Bandcamp. I am embracing the gradual, iterative nature of life as an independent artist. Getting this far has taken my whole life, and finding the albums final, mastered form will take a few more months, so it will be available on all other platforms this summer! Written, recorded, produced, and mixed by Indë. Piano performed by @averdelle Guitar performed by @hazelbasilmusic Brass and live drums performed by @richardparrisscott Additional production, recording, and vocal production by @love.nago Thank you all for listening, feeling, and creating with me. I’m soooo looking forward to celebrating this project at the album release concert at @bombyx.live tomorrow night, 3/21!!! Show starts at 7… Until then, in loving solidarity, Indë

My album Role Model comes out on Friday, and I’m performing the project at @bombyx.live on Saturday 3/21 at 7pm (doors at 6). There will be members of the Ujima Singers (the choir that I direct since Evelyn Harris’s passing), the Queer Joy Chorus, and a wonderful band of my favorite collaborators: @hazelbasilmusic @richardparrisscott @averdelle (Ailey will be playing the pipe organ, which I’m psyched about!) As a Northampton-born artist, I’m really hoping to see figures from all 25 years of my life in Western MA come out to support this project which is so much about my community. I’m dreaming of filling the sanctuary with people, and leading the whole community in my style of congregational music. Please come out and sing with me; you’ll be glad you did. There are discounted tickets available; DM/text me for em. I want you to be there 🫂 So much more to say, but I’ll save it for the stage 🧚🏽

Working on my album. Grieving my mentor and choir co-director, the legendary Evelyn Harris. A powerhouse!! That electric, funky lady. Feeling gratitude and excitement and love for the wonderful people in my life. This song is called RUBBER MAN and it is about blaxploitation/hypersexualization and I love playing with @averdelle ! So lucky to have thoughtful and creative people to bring my compositions to liiiife

COME ON HOME 🫶🏽⚧︎ it’s yours. Home is where you can be whole. It’s where you belong, without compromise. I wrote this song specifically for my queer and trans siblings who haven’t found home yet, though I believe most everyone faces a degree of shame from their family. During this capitalist holiday season I want to remind you that you can choose how you show love. Not with obligatory gifts. but by showing up for the people who make you feel at home. I feel lucky to have a traditional family that supports me, but I’m TRULY at home with my chosen family. I would love if you would share this song with someone who makes you feel at home 🫂 I really love singing this song live, and hearing my community sing with me, so I want to thank the Queer Joy Chorus for lending their voices to this project. Thank you to Mark Alan Miller for recording them. Thank you Hazel Basil for ripping on the guitar and performing this song with me over and over again… I’m so proud of how far it’s come!! Thank you Aaron “Pillbook” Garcia for mastering and getting the song to bump 🙂‍↕️ Music video coming on NYD 👨🏽‍🎨

It’s the last day of my solo show Mirror, Mirror at @apearts gallery on Main St… I can’t believe it ( i _ i ) Closing reception + concert is today (8/8) from 5-8pm if u happen to see this post in time~ Been working exceptionally hard these past few weeks and there’s STILL so much work to do! Which is alright because this is a touring exhibit and it will keep growing, but I’m trying to find satisfaction in where this particular iteration has landed. Let’s see: - 4 new paintings in progress - 14 redesigned song diagrams for my album - significant developments in the Color Harmony system - premiered the COME ON HOME music video - shot another art film/music video in the gallery - hosted the first Reparations in Residence forum to stimulate creative community action around reparations - had beautiful conversations with visitors as I was live painting - learned more about sonic and visual projection technology - hosted wonderful rehearsals and a special critique night! Thank you to everyone who spent time with the work, engaged with me, and especially the friends who showed up for me with food or words of support and lending your time and bodies to the art film project. I love you! I’m sure I’ll bring Mirror, Mirror back to Northampton someday, but it already feels full-circle to have shown this unapologetic, Black, queer, anticolonial work in the town where I was born. I am grateful.

UPCOMING @ A.P.E. “MIRROR, MIRROR” a multidisciplinary art installation by indë JULY 18 - AUGUST 8 opening reception: july 18 closing reception: august 8 —exploring intersectional solidarity, through immersive multimedia compositions and audience participation— Mirror, Mirror is a multidisciplinary art installation by Indë, a queer Black artivist born/raised/residing in Northampton, Massachusetts. The exhibit explores intersectional solidarity, through immersive multimedia compositions and audience participation. In addition to presenting large figurative paintings, an original soundtrack, mirror/glass-based sculptures, and a new system of music notation, Indë will debut the music video for “COME ON HOME,” the first track on their upcoming album Role Model. “COME ON HOME” features choir vocals by the Queer Joy Chorus, and the opening scenes of the video were filmed at the 50 Arrow Gallery in Easthampton, where Mirror, Mirror debuted in September 2024. This second iteration at the A.P.E. will feature a host of never-before-seen artworks, including new paintings and the COME ON HOME music video. The video will premiere at the opening reception on July 25th at 5pm, where Indë will perform the entirety of their album live. Screenings/performances will take place weekly, supported by a Northampton Open Media production grant. For the schedule, visit artbyinde.com
