Chris Watts’ exhibition WILD CARD captures the duality that defines his career - disciplined craftsmanship underpinned by creative risk. Known for his striking pop-art aesthetic and vibrant, high-impact portraits, Watts channels the energy of contemporary music culture into canvas, producing works that are as confident and bold as they are emotionally charged.
Watts’ artistic language is inseparable from his musical journey. In 2015, after releasing just one single, he was selected for MTV’s ‘Brand New’ platform
and soon found himself opening for Elton John and supporting Robbie Williams at A Day on the Green.
Deeply influenced by the Pop Art movement and the legacy of Andy Warhol, Watts’ paintings explore fashion, confidence, celebrity and attitude.

Sarah McGrath’s still life paintings explore memory, heritage, and the quiet emotional lives of everyday objects. Each work centers on vintage and antique jugs, vessels once held in steady hands at kitchen tables, and family gatherings. Paired with table linens, wallpaper, and patterned surfaces, these objects become stand-ins for the people and traditions that shaped domestic life across generations.
“In preserving these objects on canvas, I am preserving stories — not specific narratives, but the feeling of belonging, continuity, and shared history that lives within them.”

Polished, glamorous and even playful on the surface, there’s an underlying tension in the modern pop art paintings of Melbourne-based Chris Watts. Yes, their bold colours and clean lines evoke joy and clarity, but linger for a moment and an undertone of vulnerability often comes through.
“With WILD CARD, the people in [the pieces] are very elegant, very chic — but at the same time, there’s still a bit of vulnerability in their eyes and their emotion,” says Watts. “You can see a bit of a wildness or unpredictability. So, although they look so polished, so perfect, there’s still a bit of cheekiness or something underlying in all the pieces. That’s why I named it WILD CARD.”
Watts explains further: “If you go to the exhibition, you’ll see that as a whole — when you see them in the same space — they’re all kind of… flirting with each other. They’re all just looking at each other in this kind of weird, cheeky way. So, it’s like there’s this one big hot pot of this wildness overall.”

“In a world that often feels loud and overcrowded with noise, I have found myself searching for stillness and quiet calm. Meditation has become a vital part of my creative process — a space for restoration, presence, and reflection. Within these canvases, I explore the subliminal silence of immersion and escape.” - Sue Meyer
