België, speak up!
Aan de zijlijn staan is geen optie. De aanhoudende bezetting en het geweld in Palestina veroorzaken onvoorstelbaar menselijk leed. Watergebrek en hongersnood worden als wapens ingezet, humanitaire hulp wordt actief tegengewerkt en het internationaal recht wordt keer op keer geschonden. Toch blijft België stil. Daarom zeg ik: I speak up for Palestine. Stop de straffeloosheid!

Veertig jaar geleden draaide mijn toen tachtigjarige overgrootmoeder stiekem een slaappilletje in het eten van haar toenmalige partner.
De volgende ochtend lag er een kladbriefje op de keukentafel waarop haastig stond geschreven:
“IK BEN NAAR AMERIKA.”
Nu was het de beurt aan haar (achter)(klein)zoon.
Zo dankbaar dat dit driegeslacht samen voor de eerste keer New York kon ontdekken.
Net zoals onze (over)(groot)moeder ons is voorgegaan.
