Penny finished her old-fashioned, gave herself a generous pour of the Jameson, sat for a bit listening to Dolly, who was now wearing a coat of many colors, saw that Bobby was still watching her like he was trying to place her. Penny decided to help him out.
โWhen I was thirteen,โ Penny said, โyou used to ask me to flash you for weed.โ
โGotta be more specific than that, sister,โ Bobby C. said. Which made him laugh. Hard. Penny felt her skin get up and sprint away.
โThe other thing you did,โ she said, โis you paid a woman named Shirley Turner to show up in my cell and try to gut me with a sharpened piece of soap. Do you remember that?โ
The bartender turned on the houselights then, flooding Shakeโs in way too much brightness. โFifteen minutes,โ the bartender said.
