Capitalism doesn’t work for artists. Artists don’t create art to make money. Rich people tend to make money… to make money. Artists make life rich. We need to move back to an era of patronage. I don’t understand the ultra rich who don’t give their money to artists. A million dollars to a billionaire is a rounding error in their account. I could change the fucking world with a million dollars. Most artists could. But we’re throttled by a society that has convinced us that value is defined by dollars and cents. Artists need funding to create unencumbered and to live, and shouldn’t be forced to try to make their art instantly profitable. If society wants to continue to enjoy music, theater, dance, movies, photography, fashion, and visual works, then society needs to fund it. And stop shaming artists for not being able to turn an immediate profit.
Our second cover story! And this is one from a zine I subscribe to! Very honored and grateful to @alleemadeup with @peopleandhobbies for featuring my interview talking all things @brassrootsdistrict . You should subscribe to this fantastic zine and get monthly updates on the hippest stuff happening in LA and beyond.
