Very Hungry Gods by Ariel Ruby filled CBD Gallery with vivid, life-affirming energy until 14th May. It became the most anti-depression show I have ever curated. First time visiting her Lennox Street studio two years ago, I was surrounded by her world of tiny wonders: antique cabinets, glowing toys, glass beads, floating sculptures, dried Taiwanese fruits, and her Italian grandmother’s giant wooden spoon. Ariel’s work weaves her Italian heritage with Taiwanese temple culture. She finds quiet moments of recognition between them - fruit and lotus, plastic flowers and real ones, everyday objects turned devotional with sincerity. This is why I love artists like Ariel, their curiosity, beautiful craziness, the relentless drive to run around the world chasing ideas, and ability to bring distant worlds together into something alive and deeply moving. The gods are hungry. Let your cup runneth over. -- Xiaoxiao Ariel Ruby is an Italian-Australian multimedia artist. She studied Fine Art at the University of Tasmania and Design at UTS Sydney. Her practice spans video, photography, and sculpture, exploring devotion in ordinary life. @arielruby @cbdgallerysyd @lennoxstreetstudios #cbdgallerysydney #sculpture #videoart #australianartist

Ariel Ruby Solo Exhibition Very Hungry Gods Join us for her Artist Talk on Sat 9 May 3-4PM @cbdgallerysyd @arielruby Ariel offers a fresh, surprising, and tender angle. She mixes her own cultural memories with what she observed and collected in her Taiwan art residency, creating something new, lively, and deeply touching, the works that feel both strangely familiar and refreshingly alive. Ariel's new series of work brings her Italian heritage and the rich altar culture of Taiwan together, by claiming the moments where they quietly recognise each other across distance and time. 📷 @docqment #australia #taiwan #art #cbdgallerysydney #videoart

Very Hungry Gods Solo Exhibition by Ariel Ruby Opening Thur 16 April 6-8PM @arielruby @cbdgallerysyd Ariel Ruby (1993) is an emerging multidisciplinary artist exploring video, sculpture and installation works in both haptic and digital realms. Her work engages practical effects, digitisation, projection mapping, stop-motion and still-life techniques, allowing multiple senses to interact and combine. Ruby studied Fine Arts and Visual Communications at the University of Sydney and the University of Tasmania. The exhibition moves between video, large-scale digital collage prints, photography, and sculpture. The moving-image and print works were developed during the Kaohsiung residency through studio experimentation — water tanks, constructed still-life sets, diorama environments where organic and synthetic materials interact in ways that cannot be fully controlled. # All inquires email to [email protected] or DM #cbdgallerysydney #artcollector #australianartist #videoart contemporaryart

Ariel Ruby Solo Exhibition "Very Hungry Gods" Opening 16 April 6-8PM @cbdgallerysyd "Altars, altars everywhere. A small table outside a shopfront in Taiwan, set each morning with a bowl of fruit, a glass of tea, and burning incense. Altarini hiding on a narrow street in Naples, dripping with plastic flowers, motifs, photographs and the oddly comforting glow of an LED candle. These are not grand gestures. They are daily ones. Very Hungry Gods grows from years of sustained attention to devotional life in ordinary places, spanning two residencies in Taiwan, a visit to her grandmother‘s hometown in southern Italy, and a practice grounded in the belief that the most significant research happens not in the studio but in the street, the temple, the kitchen, and every unremarkable corner. The apple and the lotus are among the oldest devotional symbols in the world. Here, they simply find themselves on the same table. The fake flower and the real one. The light left burning for another realm. The gods are hungry. Let your cup runneth over.” - Ariel Ruby @arielruby Video credit to @susunfilm and @bywood999 All inquiries email [email protected] or DM #cbdgallerysydney #arielrubyartist #videoart #comtemporaryart #sculpture
