✨️Blessed to have this sacred site on our doorstep. The Rudston Monolith is the tallest Monolith in the UK at over 7.6m and is approximately 4000 years old. We introduced mini-Stamp to the stone for the first time today 🤩 In the East Riding Archives collections an 18th-century annotation in the Rudston All Saints Parish register (PE84/1) mentions that the monolith is "quite grown over with moss from top to bottom... its top being observed to decay" Images from @erarchives 📜 PE84/1 illustration c.1700s 📜 DDX229/3 illustration d.1855 #stonebothering #rudston #Monolith #heritage #standingstone #mabon

Proud archivist mum moment...when your 2.5yr old runs up to a 16th-century charter and shouts "wooooooow!" 🥰

🌊 Making Waves is a fascinating new exhibition at York Art Gallery focusing on over three centuries of japanese woodblock printing. I particularly enjoyed seeing the process from the initial sketch through to the multiple versions of the carving to cater for the various colours in the print.

This evening I gave a local history talk to the Bridlington Augustinian Society on the East Riding of Yorkshire Council project 'Travellers and Settlers' which aims to celebrate the lived experiences, past and present, of the settlement and resettlement of traveller and ethnic minority communities across the East Riding. My talk tonight spotlighted some stories from East Riding archival sources relating to four areas in particular: Medieval Sanctuary Seekers, records relating to immigration, Black History, and Gypsies, Roma and Travellers. These fragments from the collections provide a glimpse into just how diverse our county has been historically. There are so many other communities and impactful individuals I could have highlighted as well but didnt have time to mention in the space of an hour! Martin Batstone (East Riding of Yorkshire Council) huge shoutout to you and your important equalities work in this project and beyond, and Caroline Coath (East Riding Museums).

Just had an amazing @heritageopendays event at East Riding Leisure Bridlington with our Archiverse Minecraft activity ⛏️ The Bridlington Augustinian Society and Bridlington & District Civic Society also joined in! In our Archiverse Minecraft world we recreated Bridlington's buildings past and present, all inspired by the historical images on display from the @erarchives collections. Look at these amazing Bridlington building creations by our fantastic participants- spot anywhere you recognise? #hods2025 #architecture #bridlington #eastyorkshire #localhistory #archives #outreach #engagement #Minecraft

Thrilled to have launched @erarchives *first* exhibition "Building the East Riding - and how to Research It!" 🏛 Just in time for this year's @heritageopendays theme of "Architecture", this exhibition explores East Riding's built past, present, and even the 'what could have been'. All these stories are told via the collections. Hopefully it will inspire visitors to go just a bit further down the corridor and venture into the Archives to research property history! This wouldn't have been possible without the support from my @ermuseums colleagues who have kindly shared their expertise in installing displays, cases and curation 🤓 Also a huge shoutout to one of our fab Archives volunteers, Jonathan Morton, who has assisted with this project. This exhibition is located on the ground floor of the Champney Treasure House, Beverley, and is available for about 9 months before the next archives exhibition 📜 #heritageopendays #hods2025 #Architecture #eastriding #eastyorkshire #exhibition

Had a brilliant day supporting The Wollstonecraft Society with a Holidays and Food (HAF) event for 16 children at the Champney Treasure House in Beverley. We learned about human rights, history, and the work of Mary Wollstonecraft. I was in awe of the children's engagement with items from the East Riding Archives (“Are those real?!”) connected to Mary's life. They became history detectives and experienced a day in the life of young Mary Wollstonecraft in 18th century Beverley🕵‍♀️ Huge thanks to Emma Waslin of the Wollstonecraft Society, and Jon Adamson for making this HAF event possible for these children 👏 (no ‘action photos’ of participants shared for safeguarding reasons). #HAF #eastriding #outreach #engagement #archives #wollstonecraft

Working with the ladies from Middleton on the Wolds Green Group today, looking at some original local history documents. The group has recently launched a heritage trail for the village, which you can follow via their amazing hare sculptures created by Shane Green 🐇 ✨️Their website is / and the @erarchives are proud to be a project supporter ✨️
