Our (slightly delayed) first ezine of 2026 is now available to download! Check out the link in our bio or sign up to our newsletter to get these delivered straight to your inbox.
This edition explores architectural education, protection of title vs function (a hot topic we know!), and how this ‘title’ fits into the way we practice at AU. Come along for a slightly indulgent, but hopefully interesting, reminisce of our paths to AU and learn more about how this small practice came to be!

Over the past year, we’ve been proud to support a truly special community project 💫
The @theoldvicarageallerton by @rootedin has officially received planning approval (as of early last week!). And yes, this is not an April Fools joke!!
From preparing planning packs and writing supporting statements to managing consultations and guiding the process throughout, we’ve been involved every step of the way. It’s been a rewarding journey helping bring this important space to life for the community.
Excited for what’s next… time to crack on with some #WikiHouse building 🛠️🌱

Concept sketching!
Turning ideas into designs is a messy layered approaching . By taking pen to paper and sketching our thoughts, we’re able to iterate quickly and embrace the imperfections that lead eventually to a breakthrough. This concept sketch is a WIP, but we already love where it’s heading!

New 5° flat roof completed over at our Sale project 👌
This build is now ready for the skylight upstands before being handed over to the standing seam installers for the final covering.
This roof was carefully engineered with:
• Integrated box gutters with designed falls
• Structural timber package
• High-performance insulation
• VCL layer
• 50mm ventilation gap beneath the top board
• Vented abutment detail
A well-designed, well-built roof with attention to every layer.
Great teamwork from the Trend Design & Build crew 👏

Sketching is thinking.
For the new Ford Park Community Hall, we are looking at the critical "threshold"; the space where the building meets the park.
These early concept sketches explore three different relationships with the ground. Do we float above the landscape with a light timber deck to preserve the "nature highway" below? Or do we anchor the building with local stone gabion walls and earth mounds that rise up to meet the user?
