Forgotten spaces gain new life, revealing a #dialogue between #memory, #material and contemporary ways of living. In the #rural landscape of Bulgaria’s Devetaki Plateau, studio nada transformed an abandoned 1930s mill into a vibrant #cultural center for the #local community. Through minimal and sensitive interventions, the project preserves the building’s #raw #industrial character while introducing spaces for education, cultural exchange, and collective gathering. The Old Mill becomes a catalyst for rural regeneration, reframing #adaptive #reuse as a cultural and ethical practice, and the #restoration process itself as an act of #collective learning shaped through intergenerational exchange, local participation, and interdisciplinary #collaboration. The Old Mill also reflects broader discussions on the cultural activation of rural territories. Increasingly, European policies on rural regeneration recognize #culture and #heritage not as secondary aesthetic concerns but as strategic tools for territorial #resilience and #social cohesion. The project demonstrates how small-scale architectural interventions can foster collective identity and civic participation without relying on large-scale institutional infrastructures. As Hayden (1997) notes, everyday buildings often operate as repositories of social memory precisely because they remain embedded within ordinary life. 🔵Η Διαπραγμάτευση δεν είναι Συμβιβασμός: η επόμενη μέρα του αρχιτεκτονικού σχεδιασμού στην ΕΣΩ 2026🔵 Με σχεδόν 1.000 συμμετέχοντες, η ημερίδα ΕΣΩ 2026 ολοκληρώθηκε με μεγάλη επιτυχία την Τετάρτη 13 Μαΐου στην Αίθουσα Αλεξάνδρα Τριάντη του Μεγάρου Μουσικής Αθηνών, εξασφαλίζοντας για ακόμη μία χρονιά τον ρόλο της ως μια από τις σημαντικότερες διοργανώσεις για τη σύγχρονη δημιουργική σκέψη και παραγωγή στην Ελλάδα. Με κεντρική θεματική «Διαπραγμάτευση, όχι Συμβιβασμός. Ο Σχεδιασμός ως Διάλογος ανάμεσα στη Γη, την Τεχνολογία και τον Άνθρωπο», η φετινή διοργάνωση ανέδειξε την αρχιτεκτονική ως μια δυναμική διαδικασία, που διαμορφώνεται μέσα από τη συνεχή αλληλεπίδραση και ανατροφοδότηση ανθρώπου, τεχνολογίας και περιβάλλοντος.  Το κοινό είχε την ευκαιρία να παρακολουθήσει εννιά παρουσιάσεις από διακεκριμένες προσωπικότητες της ελληνικής και διεθνούς αρχιτεκτονικής σκηνής, που ηγούνται στην ενορχήστρωση της εμπειρίας της επόμενης μέρας του σχεδιασμού. Located on an uninhabited peninsula in Meganisi, Lefkada, Euthea by Ateno Architecture Studio introduces the site’s first architectural presence through a low-impact, landscape-led approach with expansive sea views. Στη φετινή διοργάνωση βραβεύονται ο αρχιτέκτονας και ακαδημαϊκός Ανδρέας Κούρκουλας, ο αντισυμβατικός μηχανικός και εφευρέτης Δημήτρης Κορρές και η Λήδα Παπακωνσταντίνου, μια από τις πιο σημαντικές και ρηξικέλευθες καλλιτέχνιδες της σύγχρονης ελληνικής τέχνης. Η Λήδα Παπακωνσταντίνου αποτελεί μία από τις πιο ρηξικέλευθες μορφές της σύγχρονης ελληνικής τέχνης. Από τη δεκαετία του 1970 στράφηκε στην performance, το βίντεο και τη σωματική δράση, σε μια εποχή όπου τα μέσα αυτά παρέμεναν σχεδόν άγνωστα στην Ελλάδα. Το έργο της διερευνά το σώμα, την ταυτότητα, τη μνήμη και τις κοινωνικές δομές, με έντονη φεμινιστική διάσταση. Μέσα από το προσωπικό βίωμα και τη δημόσια παρουσία του γυναικείου σώματος, αμφισβήτησε στερεότυπα φύλου και εξουσίας. Όπως η ίδια έχει δηλώσει, «Εξυμνώ τα τραύματα των ανθρώπων», μετατρέποντας την ευαλωτότητα και τη σωματικότητα σε εργαλεία καλλιτεχνικής και πολιτικής έκφρασης. Η πρακτική της συνέβαλε καθοριστικά στη διεύρυνση των ορίων της ελληνικής εικαστικής σκηνής, εισάγοντας νέες μορφές καλλιτεχνικής έκφρασης και πολιτικού λόγου. 🌾 The Summer Refuge 👉 Episode 10: Prado Toro by @extrarradio.es Is A Tiled Retreat Rooted in the Castilian Landscape 🌾   Rooted in #nature, #rural landscapes, #vernacular #architecture and closely connected to notions such as “disconnection,” “slow living,” and Martin Heidegger’s “Dasein”, The Summer Refuge series, curated by @__archt.__ focus on #seasonal #houses that shelter time, memory, and dreams.   In the 10th episode, we trace Extrarradio Estudio into the mountainous landscape of central Spain, where Thoreau’s confession in Walden—“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately”—finds contemporary architectural expression. With Prado Toro, a 40m2 #refuge partially embedded into the slope of the Sierra de Gredos, the practice translates that desire into a vernacular of retreat, intimacy, and #belonging shaping an architecture rooted in climatic sensitivity, material restraint, and the quiet rituals of rural life. Drawing from the #anonymous intelligence of #traditional #construction described by Rudofsky (1964), the project employs #ceramic #tiles, restrained openings, and compact spatial organization to shape a contemporary refuge. Its tactile #materiality and immersion to #topography echo Frampton’s (1983) critical regionalism, while the semi-buried structure recalls Heidegger’s (1971) understanding of #dwelling as an attentive relationship between #earth, #sky, and #everyday #ritual. Architecture here is inseparable from territory, shaped by the material and cultural forces of the Spanish #landscape not as passive scenery but as an active generator of form, inhabitation, and spatial #identity (Díaz Moreno & García Grinda, 2011).
