Archetype Coffee has that laid-back, light-filled vibe that’s perfect for a slow coffee catch-up or a quick takeaway.
But what really sets it apart is the team — Aaron and the crew are always warm, welcoming, and up for a great coffee chat. With rotating guest roasters on filter, there’s always something new to discover.
A proper hidden gem.

Feast your eyes upon this destructively dapper gentleman-cum-organist extraordinaire, @jeremiah.organist !!1!1!! 👀
Yesterday I put up a small paper roller by the door. Today I wondered what to do with it.
One must always trust a musician to break in new roll paper with a creative sketch.

Every weekend I have the pleasure of meeting international visitors in search of specialty coffee shops.
Hailing from Vancouver, @mniehe made a pitstop at Archetype this morning and took these beautiful photos.
Thanks again for these, Mark! If I ever find myself in Vancouver I'll hit you up for ☕ recommendations.
One of the joys, perhaps 𝘵𝘩𝘦 joy, of working in a small coffee shop comes from meeting good people. This anecdote is about one of those people.
A couple of months before Archetype existed, I was kneeling on the floor of 31 Riding House Street, looking over tile samples and paint patches.
I suddenly hear a "Hello!" at the door, where I see a grinning man peeking at the empty space in front of me.
"So, what's this gonna be then?"
That was my first time meeting Gordon, and my first time meeting a local.
Gordon lives right around the corner from Archetype. I've come to know him as a humorous, thoughtful, and effortlessly supportive neighbour. He has watched Fitzrovia evolve for most of his life. Needless to say, he cares about the community.
Soon after our early conversations, he gifted me a copy of "The E Myth" by Michael Gerber. Gordon told me that the basic principles he learnt from this book almost singlehandedly saved his own past businesses on several occasions. So I read it.
The motto is this: "don't work IN the business, work ON it." And the catch is that it's easier said than done!
I've worked IN and ON my business as a barista-manager-administrator since opening in January '22. I've certainly made mistakes—some nearly fatal to a novice entrepreneur. But one thing that always helped to keep me going, through the best of times and the worst of times*, is befriending good people like Gordon.
*fun fact: Charles Dickens grew up down the road from Archetype on Cleveland Street 🎩
Thank you to everyone who came to show support in our first week ♥️
We'll be closed on Monday to rest up and look into all your lovely suggestions!
See you on Tuesday ☕
There is a small independent bakery in North West London that makes the most amazing croissants and pastries...
I've been a regular customer of theirs for over a year, and while they don't have a wholesale business, I've been buying their vienoisserie at consumer prices, just so Fitzrovians can experience these super soft, super flakey chunks of heaven 😇
So far the feedback has been fantastic! Help me convince the baker that Fitzrovia needs her 🙏🏼
We're open!!
Thank you so much to everyone who came to the soft launch, including the wonderful locals.
Looking forward to serving the Fitzrovian community!
