“Going to the gym and volunteering at Archer Project is my structure… I'd never been at the gym before in my life but I enjoyed it that much I started paying for it myself after the first year… Things aren't going around in my head as much, you know?”
This is Martin’s Story.
At Archer Project, Martin has had the opportunity to build stability and routine through volunteering. From this, he has made great progress with confidence and independence. Martin felt safe and supported enough to try something completely new - going to the gym.
Donate today at archerproject.org.uk/donate so we can provide the safe, supportive foundation people need to build a life beyond homelessness 💛

The cuckoo is a bird known for taking over the nests of others. In society, cuckooing is where someone takes control of a vulnerable person’s home for exploitation, control, or criminal activity.
Individuals affected experience deception, coercion, and manipulation, with serious consequences for their mental health and wellbeing.
At The Archer Project, we know that cuckooing and homelessness are closely linked. People with lived experience of homelessness are at greater risk due to overlapping challenges, including:
- Housing insecurity
- Substance dependency
- Survival sex
- Mental health needs
- Neurodiversity
- Traumatic brain injuries and cognitive difficulties
On 12 May, new legislation in the UK came into effect making it a criminal offence to take control of someone’s home without consent for criminal purposes — an important step forward in recognising and tackling this harm.
In support of #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, we stand in solidarity with everyone impacted by cuckooing.
📢 An important update for our supporters: we've had some issues with the bank.
Please take a moment to check your account to see if your donation was affected.
If it hasn’t gone through and you would still like to support us, please make a manual transfer using the bank details you currently have on your standing order. If you’d like any support with this please contact [email protected]. 📧
Alternatively, please follow the link in our bio to make a one-off payment.
We’re truly sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused, and we are incredibly grateful for your continued support. Without your kindness, we wouldn’t be able to support people to progress away from homelessness.
If you have any questions or need any help, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Thank you so much, The Archer Project Team
📑 Studies show that at least 48% of people experiencing homelessness have suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
This #mentalhealthawarenessweek , we’re raising awareness of the impact that TBIs can have on wellbeing — and their link to homelessness.
Evidence shows that many people experienced their brain injury before homelessness, highlighting a powerful and often overlooked connection. 📈
A TBI can significantly affect someone’s mental health and wellbeing, including:
- Severe depression and anxiety disorders
- Cognitive impairment
- Increased impulsivity and mood swings
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Suicidal feelings
At The Project, in addition to a consistent, listening ear, we help people manage their mental health with book club, days out, volunteering opportunities, animal therapy, and discussion groups in a judgement free, inclusive space.
We can only provide this life-changing support with your help. 💛
Please donate via the link in our bio.
Take care, from us at The Archer Project.

We’ve run out of coffee at The Archer Project! ☕
For many people, a cup of coffee is just a hot drink. At The Archer Project, it’s so much more.
It’s a listening ear. It’s a conversation that can be the first step towards recovery. It’s remembering how someone takes their coffee – showing they matter.
If you’re able to help, we’d be so grateful for donations of coffee.
