A Long Line, Along The Line ▪ Competition Entry | NOT A Hotel Competition ▪ Year | 2026 ▪ Location | Yakushima, Japan ▪ Design By | @arch_of_yiming & @arch.yiyang Set within the dense landscape of Yakushima, the project is conceived as a continuous line traced across the terrain — an architecture embedded within slope, contour, and forest. Rather than occupying the land as an object, the house becomes an extension of the topography itself. A long inhabitable section slices gently through the site, framing distant views while remaining partially concealed beneath an elongated green roof. The architecture appears less as a building and more as a subtle deformation of the ground. Spatially, the project unfolds as a linear sequence of compression, release, pause, and openness. Interior spaces are arranged as moments along the line, negotiating between enclosure and exposure, intimacy and landscape. The house exists in quiet camouflage — a hidden presence within nature, where architecture dissolves into terrain and experience is shaped through movement, rhythm, and continuity. #yiming #archofyiming #next_top_architect #superarchitects #archilovers @architecture_hunter @dezeen @architizer @arch_freaks @toffuco @go_architecture @archlibrary_official @urbandesign.lab @learnarchitecture.online @architecturedotstudio @archisource @c_a_g_e @portfoliomentor

HackCity Urban Design Challenge 📍 Competition Entry | 2023 A programmatic framework structured around a 15-minute urban ecosystem. The proposal organizes the city through four pillars — Live, Play, Work, Share — distributed across a multiscalar trajectory of inhabitation. Programmes are conceived as mostly temporal, adjustable to season, scenario, and community need, supported by movable spatial systems. The urban condenser extends existing informal patterns, allowing incremental growth and layered values to emerge. Condensed into a 15-minute model, daily necessities become accessible within walking distance. The district prioritizes pedestrian movement and smart mobility, limiting heavy traffic to preserve internal fluidity. Within a compact yet dynamic configuration, multifunctional spaces support diverse communities while remaining adaptable to socio-technological shifts. An urban ecosystem designed not as a fixed masterplan, but as a responsive framework. House of Phenomenology 📍 Thesis | 2021 A pavilion dedicated to sound. Architecture reduced to atmosphere — where water, echo, and silence construct space. A shallow pool becomes an instrument; the acoustic chamber amplifies the subtle rhythm of rain. Sound replaces image as the primary medium of perception. This is a building about the senses. Not spectacle, but immersion. Movement through the pavilion heightens awareness — of droplets, reverberation, footsteps, breath. The segmented section reveals a calibrated sequence: compression, resonance, release. Here, space is heard before it is seen. 1–2. Artist’s Impression 3. Stara Zagora Experimental Puppetry Art Centre 📍 Competition Entry | 2023 A museum conceived as an envelope. The theatre reimagined as folded geometry — guiding movement through curiosity rather than corridor. The building unfolds in layers. Diagonal walls and slanted ceilings choreograph a gradual transition from street to stage, compressing and releasing space as part of the narrative. Circulation becomes performance; architecture becomes instrument. Rooted in the tradition of puppetry yet oriented toward experimentation, the project frames culture not as static exhibition, but as evolving act. The building performs as much as it houses performance. 1. Axonometric of entrance 2. Throwing it back to our submission for the Visional City Design Competition 2025 — a poetic exploration of Tokyo’s pocket spaces and the overlooked voids embedded within its dense urban fabric. The project imagines the contemporary city as a cavern. Not a space of confinement, but a threshold between reality and dream. Within narrow parking lots, beneath bridges, between office towers, and inside forgotten plots, small architectural interventions emerge as spatial episodes — quiet interiors carved from the noise of the metropolis. 1. A tea space suspended between buildings before returning to the city’s rhythm. 2. A bathhouse at a crossroads where steam and water soften the body. 3. A place for isolation, where one can simply look up into a tranquil opening of sky, momentarily detached from the city’s weight. 4. A gallery in a vacant lot inviting stillness. 5. A modest edible garden along the roadside holding sunlight. 6. A small napping alcove tucked into shadow — a brief withdrawal from obligation. 7. A hidden chamber beneath infrastructure recalling distant memory. In the context of Japan’s relentless working culture, these become moments in-between moments — spaces to pause, to immerse, to rest, to breathe, to stare, to step away without leaving. Rather than inserting monuments, the proposal releases intimacy into the urban void — freeing the caveman within the contemporary citizen. FuturArc Prize 2024 📍 Competition Entry | 2024 A modular prototype conceived for uncertainty. Architecture not as permanence, but as response. The project proposes a repeatable unit designed to adapt to flooding — elevated, reconfigurable, and capable of assembling into larger communities. Each module operates as both shelter and fragment of a broader system, allowing habitation to persist under shifting environmental conditions. Rather than resisting disaster, the architecture negotiates with it — absorbing change, adjusting levels, and sustaining life through flexibility. 1. Exploded component 2. Visional City Design Competition 📍 Competition Entry | 2025 A landscape sanctuary formed by the meeting of two planes. From their intersection, space is carved — a void shaped in quiet reference to Mount Fuji. Not imitation, but memory embedded in section. The project is conceived as an escape within the city: a constructed topography that withdraws from the noise of daily routines. Architecture dissolves into ground, and the ground becomes inhabitable. 1. Artist’s impression 2. Kingspan Microhome Competition 📍 Competition Entry | 2025 A section through 25m² — revealing the interior as a vertical negotiation. The space is not divided by walls, but by levels, light, and compression. Service elements anchor the core, while living unfolds around them in a continuous volume. The section exposes the true dimension of the dwelling: height becomes spatial generosity within a limited footprint. Openings draw light deep into the interior. The envelope remains minimal, yet precise — holding air, shadow, and structure in balance. In section, the microhome is understood not as a small room, but as a layered volume. House of Phenomenology 📍 Thesis | 2021 A pavilion confronting fear. Darkness is not absence, but material. A chamber constructed from shadow — compressing, enclosing, disorienting. Boxes within boxes reduce perception until only a single ray of light remains. Not illumination, but hope measured in precision. The first encounter is intentional: the participant does not simply enter the building — they are led into an emotional threshold. Architecture becomes atmosphere before form, sensation before understanding. 1. Artist’s impression 2. Kingspan Microhome Competition 📍 Competition Entry | 2025 A place conceived from urban voids, for urban voids. An exploration of how leftover spaces can become sites of inhabitation rather than absence. Shown here is the project’s diagrammatic thinking — ideas in their raw state, mapping how space, density, and living might emerge from what is usually overlooked. Swipe for more.
