BACK ‘EM THE WHOLE WAY THROUGH 🫂
athletic preparation doesn’t exist in isolation
the stress an athlete carries into a session rarely comes from training alone—it’s the accumulated weight of work deadlines, broken sleep, relationships, and the mental load of balancing it all while trying to perform
this is why consistent check-ins matter, even when we don’t see our athletes regularly
a lot can shift in the weeks between sessions
recovery can stall, confidence can dip, and without a touchpoint, small problems quietly become bigger ones
staying connected means we can adjust, reassure, and keep the plan relevant to what’s actually happening in your life—not just what we last saw on the table
at APTO, that continuity is part of how we look after our athletes because support that only exists inside the clinic walls isn’t really support at all
if this resonates with you and you’re feeling like an afterthought, reach out we’d love to be in your corner for your next competition

Pain is feedback 🧠
But here’s the thing—the clarity that feedback provides is temporary.
Right now you know something needs to change.
Tomorrow you’ll rationalise it.
Next week you’ll forget it.
The insight is perishable.
It’s what separates great athletes from everyone else.
One waits and wonders. The other acts and resolves.
Don’t wait—act now.

PAIN FREE ≠ READY TO PERFORM
it’s common practice to seek treatment when you’re in pain
it’s not uncommon to see pain go unresolved and a cycle repeat until real interventions are set in place to drive change
you see pain isn’t a target, using “less” pain as a metric is an easy way to remain in the same spot you started in
instead measure metrics that drive change; lifestyle changes (sleep, nutrition, stress management), training modifications (scaled intensity levels, modified movement, change in training cycle), if there’s access to it—monitor fatigue, track baseline markers for strength and imbalances
tracking these type of metrics will accelerate your recovery and have you ready to perform sooner rather than later
some progressive stages to move through:
stage one: build tissue capacity, reduce pain
stage two: restore strength through full ROM
stage three: train coordination, timing, control
stage four: progressive exposure to demanding task
stage five: return to full capacity + build on resilience
we’ll provide the tools, the know how and find the ideal path back to performance—you just follow what’s outlined
DM the word ‘SYSTEMS’ if you want to be part of our next intake—a few spots remaining
we kick off on 12 January

ALEX 12 MONTHS LATER ↓
run clubs, group training and knee pain that doesn’t quit. sound familiar?
that’s how we met Alex in 2024 — frustrated that her knee pain wouldn’t subside when she needed to push thresholds — worried HYROX was in spiral
other practitioners would throw every basic “rehab” movement, apply every taping technique in hopes of it sticking, too afraid to actually help create meaningful change
what was missing was an honest conversation, guidance and a structured plan that would set expectations and reduce the outside noise
we assessed her running
we got her to track a pain log around training
we helped her understand why her knee pain was recurring
we helped break the cycle that kept her stuck for three years
the result? no knee pain in the lead up to her first solo HYROX event and a ticket to the world championships — matching her potential and unlocking a new athlete
feel like this resonates with you? reach our DM and see if our APTO Systems is something that can help you make 2026 a year worth remembering — only 8 spots left for Q1

BREAK THE RULES 💣
i use to play it way too safe when it came to rehab,
until i met two physios who taught me to break the rules
it isn’t uncommon for athletes to spend weeks on end trying to accelerate recovery before finally getting clearance to compete again and again and again
manual therapy isn’t the problem, it’s the structure built around it; too textbook, too strict on protocols and not enough human level communication — not all athletes are built the same
meet the individual where they are and don’t be afraid to push the boundaries in rehab as long as the decisions are calculated and well informed
at the end of the day learning is the best form of progression
so progress
clear goals, timelines that make sense and structure that provides context and direction — comment or DM “SYSTEMS” to find out more details

HALF WAY IN WITHOUT PROGRESS 🙃
running still feels off, hips are tight as ever and you can’t even bare the thought of squatting above body weight — is it right to compete again, what other options do you have?
here’s the truth most athletes don’t want to hear:
pain isn’t a training variable, it’s feedback
and when you ignore it and push through pain you think resilience is on the other side? wrong, you’re simply compounding dysfunction
working harder during times like this is bullshit — you need to train smarter
→ identify why the pain is persistent
→ manage your volume and load accordingly to current capacity
→ program your recovery as well as you do intensity
→ progression based off data — not feelings
this is what will seperate most sub-athletes from sitting at the top of their sport to the majority that sit and wonder why they couldn’t make it to the next level
if you’re interested in a training system built around you and where you stand right now — backed by elite performance testing, manual therapy and outcome-based performance programming DM or comment: SYSTEMS and I’ll share all the details

THE ONLY REAL FAILURE IS NOT TRYING
your recovery has two paths: try something new or stay where you are
the breakthrough often isn’t about finding the ‘perfect’ exercises or technique, it’s about shifting perspectives on where you are now, understanding realistic timelines and being willing to adapt
if your current approach isn’t moving you forward, that’s not failure - those are data points showing you what to adjust
every attempt teaches you something
the path forward isn’t about getting it right the first time, it’s about showing up, trying and be willing to change the course when needed
what’s one thing you’re ready to try differently in your recovery? comment below ↓

OFF THE BACK OF OUR LAST POST…
here’s a couple movements we’ve been working through to help Tayla completely rewire her shoulder movement patterns
notice it’s minimal work at the shoulder joint and more attention spend learning to move through her rib cage and thoracic spine
keys unlock doors to rooms with higher potential — don’t get locked into one room (one area of the body) when improving someone’s movement

REPEAT THE PATTERN TODAY 🔁
