After the wildest year EVER, we are very excited to share that APIARY 12: The Genre Jawn is here! Join us on the patio of Dahlak from 6-9 PM on Sunday, October 31st for an evening of live outdoor readings with food and drinks available through the bar - no tricks, all treats. Authors from APIARY 11: The Essential Issue AND APIARY 12: The Genre Jawn will be reading their work, and free copies of both issues will be available for the first time in a limited print run. Dahlak's outdoor area is wheelchair accessible. The full reading will take place outdoors, but please note that masks are required for access to the indoor bar and restrooms. For the safety of our guests and readers, we ask that all attendees be fully vaccinated - if you are not yet vaccinated, we will see you when you are! We can't wait to share this work with you.

Four years ago we gathered a pile of poetry lovers inside @snapdragonflowersphilly for our first Valentines Day contest benefiting @waygayphilly . Poetry Editor Kai Davis is teaching a workshop called Writing Speculative Poetry with our friends @bluestoopphl ! This is a generative workshop with the opportunity for peer and instructor feedback. The course will discuss Speculation’s role in both the content and form of contemporary poetry. Students will engage with visual and literary work from Morgan Parker, Ebony G. Patterson, Ntozake Shange, George Abraham, Tschabalala Self, and Patricia Smith, among others. The intention is for students to expand the reach of their senses by building new worlds within their work. Together, students will invent poetic forms capable of upholding these new worlds. The course is divided into two parts. Part I will introduce themes of Afrofuturism, utopia/dystopia, the supernatural, and technology as a way to unmake or remake our histories. Part II will delve into the anatomy of contemporary forms, focusing on the sound, color, and texture of a poem. @kaidavispoet
Application deadline: January 11th!
Financial aid is available!
