EDIT: I am not down with any sort of nation pride whatsoever, I am an anarchist - this Greek lyric you’re listening to right now is an anarchofeminist slogan about consent. This post is not about nationality or taking pride in it, so please I ask of you not to use this as an opportunity to do so. What this post is about though is the encouragement to listen to music in different languages. So if you haven’t already, go and listen to music in different languages and let’s open our sonic horizons beyond the borders of our linguistic capabilities and familiarities. My favorite non-English and non-Greek lyrical bands are Pelada and Taqbir. What are yours?

RUSH before Pride – Friday June 19
— Live concert at 22:00 by @aphtykhea with dancing performer @marie_polo_
“BBC Radio 1 supported, queer Greek-British artist producer, singer and visual artist Aphty Khéa, blends driving beats and captivating melodies, that journey from warm harmonies, to distorted and aggressive tongue-in-cheek shouting.
With top-lines performed in English and Greek, their productions explore the world of electronica & UK rave culture, moving through deconstructed club, electropunk, garage and drum & bass.
Lyrically, Aphty Khéa bears tales touching on subjects of organised society, sociopolitical commentary, gender identity & queerness, existentialism, matters of the heart, and even...a zombie apocalypse. With a musical background that spans choir from the age of six, studying classical singing and piano at school, winning junior Eurovision TV Song Contest in Greece as a child, moving to London at 18 to study a BA in songwriting at ICMP; session playing for Jordan Rakei and Rachel Chinouriri, to finally find themselves between Berlin and London, community organising and making thought provoking music, accompanied by hard-hitting visuals.”

LEAVE ME ALONE 👿 no means no.
This song is about s*xual harrasement and assault. Although it has been written from my own personal experiences and perspective, it is dedicated to everyone who suffers under cisheteropatriarchy; to anyone who has been harassed or assaulted, whether in the street or behind closed doors, for their identity or for existing as their authentic selves. Down with all forms of sexism and cisheteropatriarchy!

THIS IS APHTY KHÉA I spoke with @aphtykhea at their show at @crackbellmer with @holyshiftsounds in Berlin to talk about accessing anger and turning it into something that moves,
music with personal reflections on mental health, their work doesn’t soften the edges, it sharpens them
“I Am Mad” isn’t just a track, it’s a confrontation, a check-in, a refusal to stay quiet in a world that asks us to keep going like everything’s fine
this conversation lives somewhere between catharsis and rebellion, rage as a form of care

Still dreaming of this show ❤️🔥 what an amazing crowd Bonn was 🫶- disclaimer I asked them if they would catch me before hand and they wholeheartedly consented 😍 Bonn, I’ll be back I promise! #queermusic #electroclash #electropunk #cyberpunk #darkelectronic
Edit: Just an FYI, I’m an anarchist and totally not down with or about nation pride in any way whatsoever. I’m simply pointing out in this reel that languages that are not (modern) colonial and languages spoken by smaller populations/groups don’t get encouraged or pushed enough and we should think about that a little bit by broadening our linguistic sonic horizons. Music beyond borders! —-
Let’s prove them wrong I guess? 🤷🏻♀️ would you listen to a Greek electronic queer rage track? #greekmusic #queermusic #darkelectronicmusic
