We had an action-packed day a couple of weeks ago with community and design-focused events! During the day, we hosted University of Kansas Urban Design Studio Final Review Presentations, where students shared their semester-long projects.
That evening, we opened our doors for Kansas City Design Week Open Studio Night! Guests helped build out our collaborative model of the East Crossroads while enjoying neighborhood-themed drinks.

We had some awesome helpers in the building last week! Families joined us for Bring Your Kid to Work day, where kids put their engineering skills to the test - building LEGO structures to survive an earthquake (shake table) and marshmallow-and-toothpick towers to withstand the wind tunnel (a fan).
And we wrapped it all up with an ice cream party!! 🍦 Can every day be like this??

Apex teamed up with @customcontainerliving and @roanokecollege in Salem, VA to create Maroon Village - transforming shipping containers into in-suite dorm units that provide an economical and sustainable living community for students.
Each suite is equipped with Wi-Fi, heating and air conditioning, and in-room thermostat controls.

Last week, our Denver residential design team spent some time in Kansas City, touring a few of our current projects - getting up close with stick-framed roofs and seeing local framing practices in action. We’ve found that on-site visualization is invaluable when it comes to designing these projects. 🪵🏠
And of course we had to fit some shuffleboard in while they were here! 🎯

Austin Curnutt, Aaron Kilgore, and Bryce Crady authored an article on the Bentonville 8th Street Park project - a 110 acre-park that will serve as the Western anchor of the Bentonville’s 25-mile trail system, designed to connect people with nature through thoughtful structures.
A standout feature of the park is the Gateway Ring, a nearly one-mile pedestrian loop anchored by 110-foot clear span bridges.
