Death & Company is one of the most influential bars of the modern cocktail era. It helped establish the East Village as a true cocktail destination, launched the careers of many of today’s best-known bartenders, and evolved into an internationally recognized brand with locations beyond New York. We're sitting down with their founders to talk about how it all started. Tap the link in bio for the full ep.

Meet Nixon, our sweet lil’ guy. He loves snow, belly rubs, stealing @aashey ’s slippers, and sitting by the fire. One week in, life is already so much sweeter 🥰

Pushing back in Brisbane, thirty hours of travel before I’m back in Maine — I’ll be feeling inspired and grateful every minute of it. This plaque went up amidst training and set up and construction madness, I snapped a picture but didn’t really take in the gravity of it in the moment. As the plane geared up for take off, I saw it and was taken back by the unbelievable reality that in less than two weeks, there will be six Death & Co’s in the world in two countries — each one unique with an incredible team of passionate, badass pros 🙏

@deathandcompanyaus Melbourne is officially open! I couldn’t be more proud of this milestone, the culmination of so many years of hard work by a team spanning the entire globe. Late night calls in the US matched by early morning wake ups in Australia. Learning the local construction lingo (my favorites: Sparky = Electrician, Chippy = Contractor…get outa here 🥰). Arguing extensively over bar dimensions (thanks for the patience, AVC team). Finding the right leaders to bring it all to life (@withcaradevine @s.a.s.h.gordon 🙏). And at last, seeing guests walk through the doors and order a Death & Co cocktail an entire world away from where we started in NY almost twenty years ago. Wild. And yet, it all feels so right in this city. The generosity and welcome from the Melbourne community has been amazing — thank you all for coming through in the last week to check us out! And now the coolest part of a bar opening happens: Death & Co Melbourne’s team opens the doors every day, welcomes our guests in for cocktails, food and great conversation, and you all make this space your own. All the planning and training and recipe tweaking is a foundation only — now it’s time for the magic that happens when a bar is filled with people having a great time, night after night, and it transforms slowly over years. I can’t wait to see how this one evolves. ❤️🍸🇦🇺

Copenhagen, Day 1: straight off the plane, after a quick shower hit the town on foot. Beautiful architecture, boats and canals, a little rain, and loads of espresso to keep us moving. @aashey
