Really enjoyed presenting it, sitting through the curation, and watching all the dance films. So many different ways of exploring the body, movement, and meaning. Also appreciated the Q&A, getting to share more about the process and hear people’s thoughts.
The film was always intended as a post-colonial piece-rooted in the Philippines history with Spain, the US, and Japan. Produced around 3 years after the signing of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement with the US, and during Rodrigo Duterte’s pro-China govt.
It feels even more charged now, with how that era shaped our current tensions with China in the West Philippine Sea, and ongoing military exercises with the US and Japan.
